All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

What were your thoughts on Darnold before KOC turned him into having a borderline MVP season until the last two weeks collapse?
Not close to the same situation. Wentz has had a ton of chances at multiple stops. I'm not going to die on the hill because they're both bad, but Howell at least had upside theoretically. Wentz is what he is.

The Vikings must like what Wentz brings as far as mentorship and helping JJ out more than Howell.

I would much rather watch Howell or Brosmer play over Wentz if JJ goes down.

Nailed it.

If you really thought back on page 1 that there was a chance the Vikings were going to trade away the guy they had just traded for this very same offseason explicitly to be the #2 QB, then kudos.

Does that happen much in the league? Trade for a guy to be QB2 and then trade him away, in the same offseason/camp? That seems pretty wild, but maybe it happens more often than I realize

Again .. maybe it happens more often than I realize. And I'm glad that at the end of the day, it really didn't cost us much of anything to trade for him then turn around and trade him away.

But it still feels like the trade for Howell to be the backup was a bad move, in the first place.

If they want a more vet guy for McCarthy now in moving forward with Wentz, which seems reasonable if that was (one of) the reason(s), then why not just get Wentz from the start?

I mean ..... I know of a guy (if rumors are to be believed) that pitched KOC on coming in here to mentor McCarthy, at a relatively cheap price, and take a shot at winning the Super Bowl this year.

I still think it's going to turn out that that was the right move for 2025.

I really hope McCarthy is rookie of the year. (EDIT: maybe he can't technically win it, but defacto he very much is a rookie)

JJ McCarthy can win rookie of the year this year. he missed all of 2024 season.

he he is eligible to win the 2025 Rookie of the Year award

Yes. I REALLY thought that there was a "solid chance".

The position was clearly unsettled. Stuff happens, it's musical chairs this time of year.

I put a couple bucks on him to win Comeback POY, just because he was listed, but I don't know about ROY. I don't know that I saw him listed as an option on my board

Kinda wondering if the Vikings will sign Gilmore pretty soon. I think they hoped (as I did) that Dwight McGlothern would be further along in his development and Z. Vaughn is still young and raw as well.

Could be another one of those situations where Gilmore just plain didn't feel like going through another training camp, and he'll sign any day now. If not him, the Vikings will be looking for someone. Gilmore is "okay", knows the Flores defense, and he's not likely to make the catastrophic mistake.

Not a lot of surprises, although I'm hoping Logan Brown makes it to the practice squad. I think they had hopes for him to develop, he's got some good physical tools. I think they also hoped Silas Bolden would catch on in the return game

Russell Wilson????

Stockpiling some good solid draft capital after such a limited draft earlier this year and the cap constraints the Vikings will have next spring. A bunch of contracts will get re-worked, but good to stock the cupboards with some good capital

PFT seems to think the Vikings might still waive Brosmer in hopes to sneak him on the practice squad. That would be foolish and I don't think they will.
