All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Vikings are going to be burning up the phones between now and Tuesday's cut day for a WR and more than likely even a Return guy.

It'll be interesting to see who they come up with.

Alec Lewis at The Athletic isn't know for clickbait type or "hot take" type work but in his latest roster projection, he introduces the possibility that both Howell and Rypien get cut. I don't see them going into the season with two guys that have never played an NFL regular season snap at QB. Hard to say what they really think of Howell but I'd be shocked if Rypien isn't gone

Would guess if so, they’re expecting someone like heinecke or whoever to hit the market

I should also add, I really don't see Carolina wanting to part with Thielen. Thielen has been pretty valuable as a veteran for the continued positive development of Bryce Young. Young QBs need veteran receivers to help them out. Young is getting better and better and Carolina thinks they can compete in a weak NFC South division.
Good points.

FWIW - my comment that he is a “logical and is a good fit” acquisition is based on him having spent time playing in KOC’s offense, which seemingly to me, would allow him to hit the ground running faster than a wideout who hasn’t.

I saw somewhere that Carolina is asking for a 3rd for Thielen so it seems highly unlikely to happen.
Negotiating, where the real fun begins in business🤠

If Howell was in danger of getting cut, I think he would have played last night.

I get the feeling the Vikings were pretty confident they could resign Daniel Jones and then pivoted to Howell when that fell through. He's older than dirt but Flacco would've been a perfect fit for our roster.

Thielen would be fun because of the story line and is a popular player, but if they really want a 3rd, you have to pass. A 6th sounds about right.
Amari Cooper is still unsigned and might be worth a dart throw at this point. Maybe the fact he's still available is a telling sign about him, though.

Not 3rd round, a 3rd day round (unknown which specific round yet)

Don't think anyone thinks a 3rd round is a serious offer or being considered. If I'm wrong, please supply the link

I would suggest meeting in the middle. Give them a 5th that could turn into a 4th based on performance levels.

This is really a make or break year for Bryce Young, and how secure can Dan Morgan (GM) and Dave Canales (HC) feel in their second full year running the ship in Carolina?

Word is they aren't super thrilled with last year's 1st round pick at WR, Xavier Legette and they drafted a WR in the 1st round this year in McMillan. I just find it hard to believe that Bryce Young would be supportive of shipping off what is likely their most reliable receiving option, and a mentor probably for the two young first rounders.

A lot of people will hate this (especially the folks that for some reason hate NDSU so much), but I'd be fine with this, 100%. He's played a lot of NFL football, I would think being back near "home" would rejuvenate him a bit, and I think JJ McCarthy could learn a lot from him.

He also has very little miles on the tires the last 3 NFL seasons.

If Leidner had played at NDSU…

The dude has a cannon. It’s upstairs where I’m concerned. He forces throws when he should throw it away or go down. The guy has a 100 starts under his belt though so an experienced backup with that much play time is a benefit. That and he grew up a Vikings fan and has been coached by O’Connell

I'd rather roll with Brosmer or even Howell than sign Wentz. He started for KC in week 18 last year and was beyond awful.

If you lived around here you would hate NDSU too.

Otherwise I agree with your thoughts.

I'm an NDSU grad, but I played my football at a different school before transferring to NDSU to finish Engineering. The NDSU hate is kinda odd, but I know there are plenty of insufferable NDSU fans after living in Fargo-Moorhead for way, way too long.

I agree. Life time MN resident. Don’t hate NDSU. Like the way they play football. I root for them.
