All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

I agree that if JJ goes down in a game, Wentz will be the guy that goes in to finish that game meaning he will be listed as the #2 on the depth chart.

Beyond that however there might be a legit battle between Wentz and Brosmer for who would be the starter if JJ goes down for an extended period of time. Or they would make a trade of some kind.

Another possibility: O'Connell and the Vikings might really like Brosmer.

It is possible. I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but it's possible.

They might be kind of blown away by what they've seen from him, in practice, on film, in the building, in preseason games. They might have a higher opinion of him than we think they do.

Beacuse you don't sign a qb to be a number 3. He was sign to be the backup to JJ McCarthy. Why do we have this and that and this and that. he was sign to be the number 2 QB not the number 3.
Why don't you sing a QB to be a number 3?

I feel like there must be some reason or some weight, or importance you attribute to this singing. I'm not sure what it is.

It doesn't seem like it was that big a singing. Nobody else rushing to sing the guy.

Very well stated…and to help the young ones deal with the ups and downs of a big loss or an incredible win. Never get too cocky or too down. Twenty two and twenty four need a lot of stability in their qb room before this season is finished. Seems to me CW was a great hire and will be a great presence in that qb room!
No matter how often or even how seldom he is asked to take a snap. CW will be the presence in that qb room. JJ and Max will learn from CW!

I think some of who plays depends on the situation. If MN is 4-1 and JJ goes down for a week or two I’d expect Wentz to play. If they are 3-9 and JJ has a season ending injury I think Max gets the call…just my thoughts.

IMO it would depend on how soon JJ is slated to come back and how everyone looks like in practice.

Talk'n about practice.

I agree with this to the point that it will be situational between 2 and 3. For instance, Wentz will get the call if JJ gets hurt in the middle of a game, but Max gets the nod if there’s available garbage time.
I would think there would a reverse scenario. Max isn't going to the PS. He's the backup for an in game injury. Wentz will be PS until there's a need to bring him to the active roster.

Rolling into Chicago with two QBs who have never played a regular season snap would be wild.

We shall see. You could be right and I hope you are.

This is so good and Max definitely has earned it.

Now, as a member of 53, will he get a new contract for more years and money?

I don't think either of them will be PS, you get a waived guy/free agent and sign them onto it. Max and Wentz are presumably suiting up every Sunday.

Max is a coach's dream at QB. Knows where to go and when to go there. Guy passes the eye test. It's clear they're seeing something everyday at practice, in the film room, etc.

Go Gophers!!
That is an incredibly disingenuous take on Max making the roster. Max came here a pretty capable QB that developed very well over five years at UNH before coming here.

Max is smart, talented, and deserves the credit for making the roster on his talent. PJ created the opportunity for Max to get to know O'Connell which definitely helped, and no doubt the opportunity to play in the B1G helped, but PJ brought him in to be the starter.

I hope Max does well. I stand behind my earlier comment that if the opportunity arises (ala Brock Purdy) I will not be surprised if Max becomes a starter in the NFL. I don't wish for JJ or Wentz to get hurt, but the Vikings have an ace in the hole if it happens.

I 100% agree with you. The league has plenty of rookies come in the last few years that are significant. Not all are "knockout elite" performers but have made significant contributions.

2024 Draft: Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders), and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos) were all named starters as rookies.

2023 Draft: Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers) and C.J. Stroud (Houston Texans) were significant rookie starters.

2022 Draft: Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh Steelers) saw action as a rookie starter.

2021 Draft: Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), Zach Wilson (New York Jets), Trey Lance (San Francisco 49ers), Justin Fields (Chicago Bears), and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) were notable rookie starters from that class.

Max has a different look when on the field than the average rookie. He could make very good contributions as a QB2.

That's a record number of uses of the word "sing" in one post in GH history.

Incredibly disingenuous?

So Max was already playing at an NFL level when he left New Hampshire? That was your take, now and at the time?

If that's the case, you must have been thrilled when Fleck and the Gophers recruited him to finish his college career here! I'd have to assume you give Fleck a lot of credit for finding Max, and for convincing him to finish his college career here at Minnesota, seeing as how you saw Max — coming out of New Hampshire — as already an NFL-level talent.

I think it is clear they like him, hell it looks like he is going to make the roster so clearly they do. But I still think Wentz would be the "finish a game guy" if something happened to JJ, which is why they signed him.

I'm intrigued to see what happens with Max. He is clearly really smart and ibased on what we saw last year it isn't tough to understand what NFL teams would love about him as well. He is still probably a longshot to end up as a fulltime NFL starter but if he can do enough to stay on rosters then anything is possible at that point.

I understand your point of view, and I respect your points.

Where I differ — ever so slightly: I think O'Connell and the Vikings see Brosmer as more than that. More than just a guy who hangs around the NFL for a few years.

Why do I feel that way? In truth, I can't tell you. It's just a gut feeling, nothing more than that.

Crazy that I’m already reading about all of Vikings’ 2026 draft picks and a QB will be in the picks.

Something along the lines of “JJ is great for now but Arch Manning is the future”, if that’s the case, we all sit here thinking that Max will get a chance next year, but man, more young talents are in the pipeline.

One year at a time, capitalize it when you can. So excited for Max for what he had accomplished for THIS year, but tomorrow is never promised.

He was good when he got here. And he was very well developed when he got here. I think the gophers had something to do with him developing, but I would agree with you that he was primarily developed before he came to the U.

I honestly think he looks a lot better with the Vikings than he ever did with the Gophers. That could be because he’s playing with better players though.

Yes. He was primarily formed in that famous crucible of quarterbacking... the New Hampshire Wildcats!

Fleck merely stumbled upon him. Sheer luck.

gopherbadgerman was a big Brosmer fan from Day One. He, like caliGopher, saw the potential instantly...

Did you really write "He was good when he got here?"

Seriously?

Hey, gopherbadgerman... a question for you:

You stated that Brosmer was already good when he got here. Just how good was he?

Was he, say, oh, I don't know... in the Top Third of the B1G when he got here?
