All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Richardson would not be a good backup option IMO. You only bring him in if you think there's a legit chance he can become "the guy" long term. Otherwise it's better to have a backup that fits the system you currently have. Richardson fits much better in a run first offense like Lamar is in. He's a horrible fit for an offense that throws 30+ times a game.

I guess you could have a wildcat type of package with him where he comes in for 5-10 plays a game but I'm not sure that alone is worth bringing him in for.

I think a lot of people also don't quite get the real role of the backup. It's a boatload of items, like helping the starter get ready for Sunday, someone the starter can come to the bench and talk to about the last series, et al. There's a reason guys like McCown, Chase Daniel, Brian Hoyer, Jacoby Brissett, et al were/have been backup QBs in the NFL for so long. It wasn't that much about their ability on the field.

I'm a big fan of guys that played a lot of college football before the NFL. JJ McCarthy played in 40 games at Michigan, starting in 29 as the full time starter his last two seasons, playing in some big time pressure situations. Howell played/started for 3 years at UNC, 37 games.

I also have to think about what KOC sees and wants in the position and the fact is, they picked JJ McCarthy in the draft, they sought out Sam Howell, and they went after Brosmer (and yes, they must have seen something in Rypien to bring him in last year and keep him this year).

According to the NFL Network, the Vikings are actively trying to trade for a veteran WR and have inquired about Terry McLaurin along with the Jets and Niners.

Considering the contract that McLaurin wants, I just can't see the Vikings having two (2) WRs making $30M+ per year on the roster nor do I think he's worth that kind of deal.

Addison is out until Week 4, Moore is done for the year and Nailor injured his hand and is week to week so we probably need to do something. Tyreek Hill is rumored to be available but he's a complete nut job and rapidly declining.

Why would you even waste a 6th rounder on him? He's literally never been a good QB at any point in his HS, college, or pro career. Mitch Leidner was a better college QB than him.
According to Orlovsky at ESPN, the Vikings were 1 of 3 teams that offered the Colts a mid round pick after they announced Jones as the starter.

We know that KAM and KOC loved Richardson coming into the Draft and made a massive offer to ARI to try and move up to the 3rd pick to take him.

I understand why you're not a fan but he also hasn't exactly received the best coaching and support from the Colts.

Orlovsky said that the Vikings should offer a mid round pick for AR, not that they did.

Orlovsky has been repeatedly been beating the drum that AR should be starting QB for the Colts. Orlovsky is also an idiot.

Lost me at "Orlovksy". It wasn't that long ago that he was banging the drum for Justin Fields for MVP at the "worldwide leader". Clown show guy on a clown show network.

McLaurin is a good player, but isn't he on the wrong side of 30? Just checked, turns 30 in a few weeks. For a guy that wants to seriously get paid, I think the Vikings want no part of that.

Yeah, I know people love to shit on Washington but I don't blame them for standing firm on this one.

There must be some other move coming...

Not a small move by the Vikings, considering Harrison Phillips was wearing the "C" and was very highly respected in the locker room. But the addition of Allen and Hargrave, it makes sense from a purely on the field standpoint

FWIW -

Heavy on Vikings (sone online newsletter thingie which showed up in my mailbox), claimed that the Vikes are kicking the tires on OBJ 🤷‍♂️

A gigantic NO for me.

All 3 would play a good amount so it’s weird to me. Not much return and not much in savings. Maybe they really like Redmond.
