All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

If we only keep two (2) QB's on the active roster and place one (1) on our Practice Squad, it better be Max.

I'd say the odds are very low that Max ever becomes a legit NFL backup but we already know Rypien is never going to be.

You might be right, but the HC and QB Coach for the Vikings, who have been pretty adept at managing the position up to this point, brought Rypien into the organization last year, at the expense of waiving Jaren Hall, kept him all year, and brought him back for a second year for a reason. That's not nothing.

Are you going to believe KOC and McCown's QB evaluations over my own? Making my Dynasty League Toilet Bowl Final last year should put any doubts you may have about my NFL expertise to rest.

Is this being used in the regular season this year, or just testing this in preseason?

Spotting still the major hurdle
Works great in tennis, but you have fixed boundaries.

Just think if some gambling syndicate hacks it, to change the outcome of a game.

1. Minnesota Vikings

Head coach: Kevin O'Connell
Offensive coordinator: Wes Phillips
Defensive coordinator: Brian Flores
2024 ranking: 10

When I ranked the Vikings in this exercise last season, I sang the praises of Flores, the defensive coordinator who had done the most with the least in 2023. But I wondered if O'Connell, another branch off the Shanahan-McVay tree, could innovate and evolve beyond the tried-and-true system he had run with Kirk Cousins to that point. What could he offer a younger quarterback in need of development?

The answer: a whole lot! Not necessarily to the quarterback we expected, as Sam Darnold started the entire season in J.J. McCarthy's absence -- but what a season it was. O'Connell's mastery is in opening intermediate and downfield passing windows. Darnold had more passing attempts at least 10 yards downfield than any other quarterback, and NFL Next Gen Stats charted those targets with an average separation of 2.7 yards -- fifth highest in the league.

O'Connell has easily leaped into that utmost echelon of offensive designers, and Flores remains the cream of the defensive crop. There are always little things to wonder about -- scheming for a rookie is different from scheming for a veteran, even if that veteran had never been successful elsewhere -- but there is no doubt that O'Connell & Co. elevate players more than any other coaching staff in football.

Micah Parsons no longer wants to play for the Cowboys and told the team to trade him. Could just be a negotiating tactic but his verbiage was plenty strong.

We've got all our picks plus Comp Picks in Rounds 3 & 4. How much would you offer if he's really available?

As tempting as it is, DE/rush LB is already a big strength. Not sure he would be happy going somewhere where he has to share reps with several other guys.

Hmmm...

Would you trade one of the DE/rush guys we have now in order to get Parsons?
That way, Dallas gets a replacement for Parsons and the Vikings get a possible upgrade. It might be a win/win.

I'm not sure how the salary cap would work.

It's very, very rare that it's a good idea to give up a bunch of assets, AND have to ink a massive, massive contract, for a guy who is forcing himself out of the building somewhere else.

Not saying it's impossible, but I have to believe the number of cases it's worked out for the acquiring team is pretty damn low. Besides, in the Vikings case, there's no glaring need he would fill and he doesn't fit into whatever their salary cap plan is for the next several years. And I'm sure their plan is pretty precise

Like you, not sure of the money angle, but i would possibly trade VG. Not Greenard or Turner.

I can't say I'm all that knowledgeable about Parsons, but isn't he widely regarded as a true star?

He's young (entering his fifth season) and has averaged 14.2 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. It seems like he's a major disruptive force.

Unfortunately, I think people need to dial down their expectations at least a bit.

All QB's had a very rough day yesterday. I caught the end of camp coverage on KFAN, and they're even doubting if Howell should be the backup at this point.

They brought up Kirk ....

Man I hope it doesn't go down like this. Not like this ....

With this defense ... to throw the season away ... when we could've had Rodgers ...

It sounds like our QBs have been throwing A LOT of completions to the defense since camp started and they haven't slowed down.

On a positive note, it sounds like our defense has been a giant wall starting up front with our new DTs and CB McGlothern has been a revelation thus far.

Is JJ running routes? Think people forget how big the drop off is when he’s not out there and what he does to defenses. Hell of a lot easier to hit windows to JJ and hit others when they get singled up.

I think they said JJ was going to be out 2-3 weeks and they would wait until he feels 100%. That leaves Addison, Nailor and Rondale Moore. We could use a Keenan Allen type WR on this roster.

It's easy for people to "panic" a little when we're dealing with a relatively unknown commodity like JJM at such a crucial position.

Think they hoped tai Felton could be that big bodied type guy and he’s supposedly looked very meh. It’s part of what makes the bengals so hard to defend with chase and Higgins. Addison is fine, but he isn’t a WR1 on a good team. Then it just ripples down the line

Yeah...i really liked the Felton pick so hopefully he can eventually develop. It's also a foregone conclusion that Addison will be suspended for at least three (3) games. Cooper Kupp would've been a nice target in FA considering the deal he signed with SEA.

As rosters get trimmed, maybe a solid WR will become available to add to our depth.

Season over?

Let's see what happens when Darrisaw and Fries get going.

I have a feeling the offense will start the year very slowly and everyone will panic. Then' the offense will start to click the 2nd half of the season.

They'll be a borderline playoff team, but if they get in, they'll be dangerous because they'll be going on all cylinders.

Continuing to tout a fossil QB who led the Jets to fewer wins with him in 2024 than without him in 2023.

Sad.
Everything I'm reading out of Steelers camp seems positive. But I agree let's not waste our time talking about something that isn't on the table, my friend.

The real question, if this doesn't fix itself sooner than later (or worse, it carries over into the preseason), is if they need to think about bringing Kirk in.

If they do, it needs to be understood that he will not be anointed starter and would have to win the job. No big contract, something similar-ish to Darnold.

He has found out that after last season's post-Achilles rupture performance that he is not getting much interest as a starter. If he can't accept the terms above, then no deal.

He was loathed in The 🍎 by everyone, except his sycophants who joined him for his crappy arse play.

He did zero to hep mentor Zack Wilson as well.
