Paddack and Pagan for Rogers and Rooker(should have been AS last year) was a real stinker. Holding out hope for Gonzalez but essentially no value for Polanco as of yet. I’d say Berrios return was okay. Cano for Lopez was not a win and Cano became an alll star like you asked about.

I’d say a mixed bag overall trade wise with this regime. Ryan and Lopez are the jewels.

Free agency. Pretty bad, with Bader and France being good calls this year.

The Cubs have a couple of excellent left-handers at the top of their rotation, but they're missing the presence of a workhorse righty. That's especially poignant as they've fallen behind the Milwaukee Brewers, whose rotation is well-balanced and very deep, in the division race.

Trading for Ryan, a first-time All-Star this season who also has two years of control left after this season, would be expensive. But just how expensive? Is the asking price going to exceed what the Cubs are willing to surrender?

Just Baseball's Ryan Finkelstein and Jay Staph believe the price will be just within reason, allowing the Cubs to use their excellent farm system to make a splash.

On Friday, Finkelstein and Staph predicted that the Cubs would acquire Ryan, sending the Twins a three-prospect package including catcher Moises Ballesteros, infielder Jefferson Rojas, and right-handed pitcher Jaxon Wiggins.

"For a team with World Series aspirations and a deep farm to boot, we are shooting for the stars with this one. So why not grab the best ace with control and swing a trade for Joe Ryan?" asked Finkelstein and Staph. "While no team ever truly wants to trade their ace until they absolutely have to, this would be the rare chance to receive three top 100 prospects in one deal. That's not an offer they would be able to turn down lightly."

How good has Ryan been this season? Among 61 qualified starting pitchers, he ranks 12th in ERA (2.63), 12th in strikeouts (132), seventh in opponent batting average (.163) and in fourth WHIP (0.90). Add in the years of control, and it's hard to imagine the Twins giving him up for any inferior package to the above proposal.

While it might make Cubs fans wince to give up so much talent in one go, the reality is that this is the time to push the chips to the center. And as long as Ryan remains healthy, he'd be able to help with two more pennant chases at a minimum.

Was just going to post this. Seems light to me without getting at least a Top 25 prospect for Ryan but you guys follow MLB far more closely than I do. It sounds like the Cubs are also interested in Jax.

Maybe they really think Ballesteros is a DUDE - left handed hitting catchers are one in my fetishs. Or a miniature first baseman!!!

His scouting report is juicy -

Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 50 | Run: 30 | Arm: 50 | Field: 40 | Overall: 55

Ballesteros stood out on Venezuelan youth teams before signing for $1.2 million, getting the second-largest bonus among catchers and Cubs signees in the 2021 international class. His advanced hitting ability has put his career on fast forward, as he reached full-season ball at age 18 and Triple-A at 20. He slashed .289/.354/.471 with 19 homers in 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A in 2024, winning Chicago's Minor League Player of the Year Award for the second straight season.

Ballesteros has a pretty left-handed swing and some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the Minors. His lone weakness at the plate is a tendency to chase pitches out of the zone, especially fastballs, which has cut into his walk totals at higher levels and resulted in less contact in Triple-A. He has done a better job of driving balls in the air the last two seasons, showing improved power to all fields and giving him 20-25 homer upside.

Much heavier than his listed 195 pounds, Ballesteros has well-below-average speed and quickness, giving him no value on the bases and leading to questions about his long-term viability as a catcher. In 72 games behind the plate last year, he committed seven errors and 13 passed balls while surrendering 87 steals in 99 attempts (88 percent). He does feature soft hands, which along with his hitting ability earns him some Alejandro Kirk comparisons, and he’ll flash solid arm strength that plays down because of his slow footwork and transfer. First base is his only other realistic position, but no big leaguer 5-foot-8 or shorter has played 100 games in a season there since Joe Judge in 1930.

I'm more of a "quality over quantity" kind of guy, but like I mentioned, I don't follow MLB like most of you guys on here. I couldn't name the Twins' Top 10 prospects so I'm certainly not qualified to critique prospects from across the league.

All that said, I hope we hang on to Ryan, Duran and Buxton. Everyone else should be on the table.

You first, although when I was 10 I could name every player on every team in MLB.

I’m a 58 year old man, who just started working PT, after having not worked for five years due to various medical issues, so I have much different fish to fry than someone in your age range.

I get a kick out of all the posters on here who could naturally outwit Falvey with ease; their hubris amuses me and reminds me of my smug pre 50 year old self. Trust me I was a much bigger “expert” (viva La Sid) than anyone on here - this was my theme song from that era -
