ANNUAL GOPHERHOLE PICTORIAL COUNTDOWN TO GOPHERS SEASON OPENER!!

37!

One of the more frustrating losing streaks in Gopher history finally came to an end in 2018 when the Gophers went on the road and made themselves bowl eligible by beating Wisconsin 37-15 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

That game meant a lot. Winning the Axe for the first time in 15 years was the headline but the game also served notice that Minnesota was a rising program under new coach Fleck and with lots of puzzle pieces returning for 2019 - it was a time of guarded optimism that would turn to elation when that 2019 season did finally play out.

The punt return was fantastic.

36!

for 36 we step back to perhaps the most "what could have been" season of my lifetime. 2003. A 36-10 thumping of Illinois was a great example of how vicious the Golden Gopher running game could be.

The Gophers had a pair of 100-yard rushers. Maroney led the way with 179 yards on just 22 carries, and Barber had 129 yards on 24 carries. In the second half, Maroney had a 89-yard run called back by a holding penalty.

35!

For 35 we have a 35 yard touchdown pass to Daniel Jackson (Jackson made touchdowns against Michigan look easy) in what was otherwise a very forgettable game.

Wasn't it Jon Hoese that had a sick (Grandfather or father?) that had passed away and the game after he scored one or two TD's?

It was his dad, following the season opener. He had three TDs on the ground in that game.
Wasn't it at Middle Tennessee State if I recall? We had a visitor post on here, DancesWithRaiders or something like that. She was trying to convince us that we've never dealt with the humidity that we would feel in their stadium. Good memories!

Yes. Humidity is always above average in middle Tennessee.

She talked about the humidity, but brought the steam.

34!

Speaking of DancesForRaiders, Middle Tennessee, humidity, and the number 34... how about a Gopher 34-3 snoozer over those very Raiders?

Derrick Engle did enjoy a 34 yard touchdown against Purdue

34 has been an interesting Gopher number over the years. An incomplete list includes:
34-32 homecoming victory over Rutgers
34-16 over Maryland a few years ago
34-7 thumping of Nebraska in 2019
34-7 rout over Michigan State on the road to go 4-0 three years ago

But it does cut both ways as the infamous loss to Texas Tech in the Insight Bowl (cost Mason his job) was in OT 31-34
