BYU QB Reportedly Transferring

Yeah, OP kind of buried the lead. Apparently he isn't facing criminal charges for the alleged assault which he claims was consensual but is getting suspended for 7 games for having pre-marital sex.......I get the whole religious school angle but wow that seems way over the top. Gotta think that honor code makes it much tougher to get non Mormons to transfer in.
His penalty is relatively minor compared to -

The Green Bay Packers running back you're referring to is Jamaal Williams. Before joining the Packers, Williams played at Brigham Young University (BYU). In 2015, he was suspended for violating the university’s Honor Code—specifically for having a girl in his dorm room, which is against BYU policy.

Williams has been very open about the situation, once stating:

“I had a girl in my room … Honestly it’s your responsibility for breaking the honor code, because they tell you the rules.”
He chose to stay at BYU for a year despite the suspension, returning in 2016 and becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher, which impressed NFL scouts from Green Bay .

So in short: it was Jamaal Williams, suspended in 2015 for having a female student in his dorm room.

My wife went there and I think what I bolded is correct. However, I think that once every two weeks or so they can have the opposite sex in their dorm rooms for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoons, with the door open. Glad I didn't go there.

I made this up, I have no info:

School and/or Church paid her off to make this go away? Not to keep the kid there, rather to get the story out of the news and make sure it never comes up again.

I wonder if any school will want him now with this hanging over his head. He may need to take a year off to let this play out.
With what hanging over is head? The fact he had pre-marital sex? Pretty sure almost every one....

To clarify, he wasn’t suspended for the whole season.

NFL teams are infamous for investigating players with background issues - so I don’t think he would lie about it, as the lie would be more disconcerting than the activity itself. If they lie, there’s no trust!!

It must suck to be Jake Ratzlaff (Rosemount, MN) former UMN hockey recruit who went to play football at WI and now plays hockey at St Thomas and everyone is using the spelling of his name when referring to this BYU story
I did exactly this when I first google searched the BYU guy.

Someone made it go away.....

I grew up / was brainwashed into Catholicism growing up as a child and the whole premarital thing is a big hypocritical deal. Different religion, but same principle. Getting suspended for 7 games doesnt surprise me.

What is this, a mild-mannered conversation where people (me) admit their mistakes? On GopherHole? in 2025? lol. apologies to everyone for my poor answer but thanks for trying to back me up
Well, I was going to demand you change your monicker to "FakeLegalGopher."

It's funny how this bothers some of you so much.

BYU has nothing to do with your life. Jake Ratzlaff has nothing to do with your life.

Go.....Gophers.
"It's funny" how you come into almost every off-season thread and comment about how the thread topic shouldn't bother/concern us.

Or it was bogus from the beginning.
he admitted he had sex so the suspension was staying regardless. Given that, there's probably not a single reason for the church or the football team to care. Given that, these cases are almost impossible to prove in a court of law and given the discussion of talking afterwards for months, doesn't seem like that one's going to stand up in civil court either so an out of court decision seems like the logical choice from both sides' lawyers who will assuredly collect their fees and claim they won :)

I know, for some reason there are people who care about more than what happens in our own lives. The attack that happened at the Southern Israel concert has no effect on my life. The destruction of Gaza has no direct effect on my life. But I care about what happened at that concert and what is happening in Gaza, we're all in this world together.

The big difference here is most Catholics break that rule and no Catholic school would have a team rule about it.

As someone who also grew up catholic and went to the associated school for K-8, I'd say they care more about your financial contributions being active than you being sexually active.

Not a knock on catholics personally, just an observation.

nah they'd just say you marry her immediately and keep the baby for you're doing your duty in populating the world ;) /s

If he's still transferring, I hope PJ has reached out. I don't care if he drowns a puppy daily. This isn't your daddy's college football, its a business. And we ought to be in the business of winning games. Is Lawrence Phillips still alive? Does he still have eligibility?

That is factually accurate. I have a friend that told me how much he gives and my jaw just about hit the floor lol

Depends on which church, which religion. Many churches have more concern about your giving than other aspects. Bottom line is this. Enough....take it to the off topic board. By the way, I doubt that the guy was honest about what he was giving.

Count on Gopherhole to turn this story into an anti-religion rant.

You do realize that many of those awful religious people are out there in their communities helping people, raising families, and paying taxes while you folks sit on your keyboards taking anonymous shots at the good people of this world?

We always say, if you have that jerk standoffish neighbor that has no friends, but masks it by pretending he is too good for traditional pillars of society, he is probably active on Gopherhole.
