All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Looks like the Rays are about to be sold for $1.8B and that's without a new stadium deal in place.

Pohlads have to be thrilled. That is now the absolute minimum. Bigger market, better stadium.

Also the Lakers are being sold for $10 billion. A-Rod/ and Lorie got away with a theft.

Yes. But in terms of MLB territory size the Twins market is bigger.

Territory? Why does that matter? Tampa has Orlando right next door which is also a bigger market than MSP.

The Tampa/Orlando market dwarfs Twins territory population wise significantly.

MLB considers Minnesota larger in their revenue sharing calculations. I don't know where all the lines are drawn between Tampa and Miami etc.

The Twins certainly have higher attendance and traditionally much higher TV ratings.

If you stripped Barry Bonds of his stats from his seven MVP seasons, he still has more combined HRs (440) and SBs (359) than anyone else ever 🤯. Let him in🤠

Julio Becquer hit the first pinch-hit homer and first walk-off homer in Twins history leading off the bottom of the ninth on this date in 1961.

The Twins led 4-1 entering the top of the ninth before Orioles right fielder Earl Robinson hit a game-tying three-run homer off Twins starter Jack Kralick. With the pitcher’s spot up first in the bottom of the ninth, manager Cookie Lavagetto called upon Becquer to pinch hit. The walk-off was one of only 12 home runs Becquer hit in his major league career, including a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam on the Fourth of July 1961.

No offense tonight

Shocking!
To be fair, the kid from Milwaukee appears to have real good stuff. Ryan threw too many pitches and Rocco picked the wrong bullpen guy to try and keep the game in reach.
The big difference is the Twins and Brewers each have one 20 million dollar+ player. The Brewers guy knocked in 7 runs. Twins guy can't get on base.

Make that 8 RBI.

FWIW he has been ranked the Brewers top prospect and // high as 21 in MLB,

He also accomplished this feat last night -

Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski threw six perfect innings against the Minnesota Twins on Friday, becoming the first starter in 125 years to record 11 hitless frames to begin his MLB career.

On just his second career start, the 23-year-old gave up nothing until the seventh inning when he conceded a walk to Byron Buxton before Matt Wallner hit a home run to right field. That ended Misiorowski’s streak of no-hit innings at 11, more than any other starter has managed to begin their career since baseball’s modern era began in 1900.

Plouffe talking about how now is the time to show the front office that they're a playoff team. Last couple years show they don't really care if they are in contention or not.

I think now might the time to make a managerial move. It’s one thing to lose.’, it’s another to have humiliating blowouts 2/3 of your games .Bride pitches almost every night.

But the Pohlads don’t care so nothing will happen.

Doubt they’ll want to pay two salaries for one job.

Except for 3 weeks in May, this team has been completely dead@ss for nearly an entire season worth of baseball now. Fire Rocco and give Toby G a shot. It can't really be any worse.

Castro not knowing how many outs there were earlier in the week and Brooks Lee striking out to end the game last night and just walking back to the dugout even though the ball got away from the catcher reflect really poorly on this team's leadership.

Buck Showalter would be an excellent remedy, as the crap you described would cease and desist - Old Time Baseball.

FWIW, I find this quote from Jeffers, refreshing as it’s the first time in recent memory, which zi recall of a player publicly calling out the overall ineptitude. You gotta be honest and acknowledge a problem before real change can occur -

“We’ve been such ass - this goes back for a couple years now - seemingly such a rollercoaster of a team. We have our highs and we have our lows. And I wish we could put a finger on why we can’t stay a little bit more level. We’ve dealt with some injuries but it seemingly, over the last couple years, always happens all together at once. It’s not like the pitchers are playing well and the hitters aren’t banging the ball around the ballpark, or the pitchers are really lights-out and we’re not putting up anything. There’s not one group that’s carrying us and that’s kind of how it’s been. It’s been when we’re clicking, we’re clicking everything on all cylinders and when we’re not, no part of our game is working. We’ve got to figure out how, I guess.” -- Ryan Jeffer

First Half MVP for the Mighty Mussels

Single-A Fort Myers: LHP Dasan Hill
(No. 13)

Shouts go out to infielder JayThomason and outfielder MadduxHoughton, both of whom have put up nice numbers in relatively limited duty for the Mighty Mussels. But if we’re going with a player who hasn’t gotten a lot of reps at Fort Myers, it has to be 2024 draftee Hill. The big lefty has one of the most exciting arms in the entire Twins system, and he’s dominated hitters in his first taste of professional baseball. Entering his start Saturday night, he had amassed 43 strikeouts against 16 walks in 27 1/3 innings, allowing just 12 hits.
