Stanley Cup Thread

Bobrovsky continues to be the most overhyped goaltender in the NHL.

40 year old Perry ties it up with 17 seconds left to send it to overtime. This has been a wild game much like game 1

Skinner standing on his head

Love him or hate him, Marchand is a stone cold assassin!

A shame as the series has been incredible.

Gooo Wild!!

I was able to watch simultaneously. The TVs at my Golf Club, had both on (plus the Twins).

Penalty number 7 now called in the first

Would have to see that Bennett play again, but real close to kneeing there. Florida is really out physicalling Edmonton tonight and looks way faster and meaner so far

Oilers getting schooled. No overtime tonight

That they didn’t just kick loustarainan out of the game is some stupid officiating

Fuck Edmonton after that display. Bad look for the game too. They can pound sand

#99 ripped the Oilers netminder (in a friendly Great One kind of way) in the TNT Postgame.

He did look like a sieve.

I have to say, I'm happy with the outcome of this one, other than the fact that Draisaitl torpedoed on Shot on Goal parlay by not having a single f*ng shot on goal for the night. WTF....

Florida really locked Drai and McDavid down last night. does not bode well for Edmonton if they're not scoring.

On Drai just as I was curious, his shooting percentage for how many goals he scored this year is crazy. almost 22% with no one else with over 200 shots above 19%. some of that is the joy of getting to take feeds from McDavid, but crazy he scores on over 1/5 of his shots

Florida is the better team — better depth, much better goaltending, and better coaching. They took their foot off the gas pedal last year up 3-0 and once you lose momentum it’s hard to get it back. I don’t think they’ll let up this time. This series could easily be 3-0 right now if not for the puck over glass PP in overtime in Game 1.

advanced stats/analytics would say its been a pretty even series, with the Oilers actually with better advanced stats for games 1 and 2.
Game 1: xG 4.65-3.71 Oilers
Game 2: xG 5.37-4.16 Oilers
Both games favored oilers to win (when accounting for Corsi, etc.) of about 61% of time.

At this point I kinda just want the series to be over as soon as possible so the offseason fireworks can begin. This could be a wild offseason, I'm already buckled in and ready to roll

As a MN fan (and for you as a VGK fan), will be an important offseason for both teams. Lots of dominoes to fall this year and for MN, this will be what decides if Guerin is remembered fondly or fired.

Goaltending is the key. Oilers are hurting in that department. When Bob is on the Cats are damn near impossible to beat

agreed 100%. Stu and Pickard are not guys who can steal games from you. Bob can, even if he has been up and down this year. Kind of reminds me of Vasilesky when he was on for the Bolts when they were winning. Could stand on his head when needed (sometimes for whole games) to keep you with the momentum, find your game, etc.

For the Panthers, Bob typically will get beaten, but seems like he turns up when you need him to. Stu is a guy you wince while watching waiting for him to mess up.

I'm expecting some folks, as most years with VGK haters, to lose their collective minds in the next month or two, depending on what happens.

With plenty of smoke already about the VGK pursuing Mitch Marner from Toronto, there are some rumblings that veteran D-man Alex Pietrangelo (35 yrs old) could miss much or all of the 25-26 season with injury/surgery, which would free up a whopping $8.8M in cap space. I've heard it's POSSIBLE it could even be career threatening, something like Stenosis or other long-term injury.

Petro has this year and next year on that contract at $8.8M/yr; he's a very family oriented guy that has made plenty of money in his career. If the injury is remotely bad enough, I could totally see him saying it's not worth it. VGK opens up massive cap space this year and next. Lots of speculation, but nothing would surprise me with this Front Office and organization.

I can already hear the screaming about LTIR manipulation....

As long as he doesn’t come back for a round 1 matchup with the Wild after missing all year and being skating for weeks ahead of the series 😉

It's interesting you bring this up, at the risk of going slightly off the rails here...

For as much screaming that goes on about this, people rarely talk about the downsides of this and the situations where it either doesn't work or works against you. There's often not a lot of benefit to inserting a player in your lineup that hasn't played a meaningful game in 2-3+ months, which also means shuffling your lineup from what you've been using to close the season, etc.

And that doesn't even factor in if the player is ready to return. I know for VGK, in Round 1 of last postseason against Dallas when Dallas won in 7 games; Mark Stone returned from another back injury and his presence was a detriment if I had to say. He wasn't ready to play, he looked like a 70-yr old man skating around the ice, and it caused a major line shuffle for an opening round playoff series against a very good Dallas team.

I don't see the LTIR things changing anytime soon; both the players and owners have their chance to change it during their negotiations and they haven't yet.
