Roman Voss

I hope his family/inner circle are smart about this. He will get reps and touches here that he simply won't get at a blue blood.
I think the success of Koi Perich really helps. It shows:

1. A high profile recruit can thrive here at the U, and doesn't need to leave for a bigger stage.

2. The Gopher staff is serious about getting that player on the field early, and utilizing him in exciting ways

Small tidbit Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer may have the USF connection where extended family have attended and played for him years ago in Sioux Falls…hoping he ends up in maroon and gold !

With the new NIL and transfer landscape, the goal for most HS players should be to get on the field (meaningfully) as fast as possible. I get the draw of wanting to compete for a Natty, but sitting 3 deep on the depth chart for 2 years makes even less sense now when you can be getting paid, and still have the option to transfer up.
I really hope he comes here but hope it’s not because he doesn’t think he’ll be able to get on the field at Alabama.

I think it would be foolish to not think that the prospect of early playing is higher here then it would be at Alabama. But this still feels so much like Perich.....the local option or a high profile out of state school and like Perich I won't be shocked if he elects to stay closer to home and goes with the home state school.

It kind of interesting to see what he does here too when you think about Diane being committed for next year. I know neither class has their final ranking but Diane is 3 whole points higher per composite. Between Siane and Koi, and previous years, there’s a trend of the top guy staying home. Will Voss continue that?

Several promising HS prospects from WI, ND, and MN have decided to stay closer to home by signing with the Gophers. They see Gophers get drafted every year, and several who go the UDFA route with a legitimate shot at making an NFL roster. It is quite commendable in the NIL Era.

2023 - Greg Johnson, Jerome Williams, Karter Menz
2024 - Koi Perich, Nathan Roy, Riley Sunram
2025 - Emmanuel Karmo, Ethan Stendel, Mason Carrier
2026 - Andrew Trout, Howie Johnson, Gavin Meier

Other good regional developmental players have picked the Gophers, which is great for program stability.

We hope for the best for Roman Voss. He will have success wherever he goes.

To piggyback off of your last sentence, I'll be thrilled if he comes here and we'll be that much better with him on the roster. If he doesn't, I still like the makeup of this team and think we can do some great stuff.

Excellent post. Agree on all counts.

One quick note to add - Mason Carrier is Class of 2024. Was with the team last fall and played in the Duke's Mayo Bowl in his college debut.

It's nice for the Gophers to not just be thrown in on top 3s or 5s just because they're the hometown team (the player is not really considering them anymore). We're usually a serious option for most MN kids now days.

Yes, The Seantral Henderson mercy finalist days are over!!!

Would be great if Maxx Williams was mentoring him!!

Separate accounts, key to long marriages.
There's actually a lot of evidence to the contrary, but to each their own.
I'm a joint account proponent. I find us being able to see what each other is spending money on as a benefit to me. Except for when I'm running around the desert with my wolfpack looking for strippers and cocaine

That moment when a GH thread officially derails.
Once a thread gets beyond the first couple pages it is a guarantee that it will start to wander a ton. This thread stayed on topic longer then most on this site. :)

Roman Voss size and quickness reminds I think a lot of us of Max Williams. They had Williams line up all over the place, if they could do that with Voss, and we could see a lot of damage. I think you would see explosive plays like Williams had for the Gophers with Voss. Hopefully we Gophers are so lucky.
