2025 Transfer Portal Watch

MICH, IND and USC are really loading up on some higher end transfers while MSU seems to be relatively quiet in the portal thus far.
Michigan St is usually pretty quiet in the portal. Izzo brought in no transfers in 2022 and 2023, two last year and one so far this offseason.

That seems to say a lot about his ability to identify, develop and retain HS recruits. I wonder if the new college world of NIL will hasten his retirement as it has for others.

The guy is a coaching legend and icon...or as someone else calls him, "meh".

I think Izzo has 2 seasons left in him, 3 tops. Get the feeling he really wants that second national title, but have to believe the nonsense going on now will finally wear him down.

I have a 25 year old daughter who is a school teacher but she has told us many times that she doesn’t want to work as hard as my wife and I have. We keep telling her that life in general is no cake walk. She is coming around but it’s hard to induce more drive in someone.
To be fair to your daughter, being a young teacher is grueling and energy sapping, as they figure out classroom management, develop their toolbox of lesson plans while aligning to curriculum, being put under the microscope by students and parents, and depending upon their situation, not feeling the support of veteran staff/admin. I am sure she’s harboring long exhausting days that stretch into the evening and night and sometimes that fantasy of retiring on a beach at 45 is what gets you through the next day, week, month.

I'm a 46 year old teacher, and I have NEVER allowed myself to entertain a fantasy of retiring on a beach at 45 😄

Teachers have no support system. It is a very isolating experience. Students are great sometimes but are not like adult support. Just saying out loud what few will do.

thats just not true. my father was a teacher. had his family for support, neighbors for support, other teachers for support, and a whole lot of Early Times for support

I’m a 51 year old teacher and I can tell you there is lots of support within our circles, but it’s frustrating to be put on the defensive about test scores and content. Frustrating to be accused of not caring, of not giving enough effort toward each student’s needs. Somewhere down the line we became the enemy, and I’m not sure why or how. Most of us could have made a lot more money doing something else and had far fewer headaches. I don’t need a medal, but it would be nice if parents, admin, politicians, etc. would find a way to not make things harder.

I’m just not sure how they are planning to lure new teachers into the profession. We can’t assume they’ll continue to get good, talented, qualified people just because they care about kids.

The lack of support, in my experience as a teacher for 15 years, was in the school administration. My observation was that bad teachers often became administrators while great teachers loved teaching. The problem is that those former bad teachers then dictate their bad policies on good teachers, which ultimately causes good teachers to leave education because they get fed up with bad administrators.

Like everything in life, every situation is different and there are a lot of different ways that different people react or are affected by those situations. There is no "One Size Fits All".

The top 2 posts on GH now are a kid who committed and then de committed within like 2 weeks and a good program who lost 100% of their roster.

Just the most typical 2025 ncaa posts. I don't know what the right word is, frustrating, exhausting, annoying. 0 issue with kids getting paid but the entitlement some kids have is unbelievable. NCAA, or whatever will eventually take over after the ncaa as an organization crumbles, needs to figure this out, total unfettered FA at all times can't continue.

I am wondering if a bigger fish came sniffing around. Or wants to be closer to home. (I don't think he ends up on the gophers)
Buyer's remorse. He committed really quick and I'm sure put little thought into the whole process.

I like the pace that Niko works at and seems to put time in and gets a visit out of each recruit.

Maybe, but the cynical side of me is inclined to believe he got a better offer from someone else and suddenly wasn't as interested in South Carolina anymore. Will be interesting to see where he ends up and what kind of $$$ figures are released in regards to his pay for play numbers.

If he commits to another program in the next 2-3 days, it's pretty safe to assume that this was the scenario.

2 words. Teachers Lounge. I can only imagine what went on in there
They are so small, hardly furnished, paltry for the pantry, that you said your hellos and ate quickly because the next teacher in needed a seat. I think our lounge could seat 8 if a chair hadn't been borrowed.

Is it not equally possible that the situation the school presented failed to materialize? South Carolina just had their best player announce for the NBA. If the school told Eaglestaff either a) this guy is staying and you get to play with him and/or b) indicated they could pay $X and then failed to produce that amount of money, is it not fair for him to reconsider?

This board puts a lot of onus on the players in situations where we only have partial information.
