Michigan St is usually pretty quiet in the portal. Izzo brought in no transfers in 2022 and 2023, two last year and one so far this offseason.

That seems to say a lot about his ability to identify, develop and retain HS recruits. I wonder if the new college world of NIL will hasten his retirement as it has for others.

The guy is a coaching legend and icon...or as someone else calls him, "meh".

I think Izzo has 2 seasons left in him, 3 tops. Get the feeling he really wants that second national title, but have to believe the nonsense going on now will finally wear him down.

To be fair to your daughter, being a young teacher is grueling and energy sapping, as they figure out classroom management, develop their toolbox of lesson plans while aligning to curriculum, being put under the microscope by students and parents, and depending upon their situation, not feeling the support of veteran staff/admin. I am sure she’s harboring long exhausting days that stretch into the evening and night and sometimes that fantasy of retiring on a beach at 45 is what gets you through the next day, week, month.

I'm a 46 year old teacher, and I have NEVER allowed myself to entertain a fantasy of retiring on a beach at 45 😄

Teachers have no support system. It is a very isolating experience. Students are great sometimes but are not like adult support. Just saying out loud what few will do.

thats just not true. my father was a teacher. had his family for support, neighbors for support, other teachers for support, and a whole lot of Early Times for support
 

I’m a 51 year old teacher and I can tell you there is lots of support within our circles, but it’s frustrating to be put on the defensive about test scores and content. Frustrating to be accused of not caring, of not giving enough effort toward each student’s needs. Somewhere down the line we became the enemy, and I’m not sure why or how. Most of us could have made a lot more money doing something else and had far fewer headaches. I don’t need a medal, but it would be nice if parents, admin, politicians, etc. would find a way to not make things harder.

I’m just not sure how they are planning to lure new teachers into the profession. We can’t assume they’ll continue to get good, talented, qualified people just because they care about kids.
