Maybe a competent coach makes the portal easier, just saying.

That may be true, but it is happening faster!

Omot was a hot ticket last year, much better than Frank, Edmonds, Rigsby,…..

We have 2 players committed and neither are a tier above players we've landed the past 4 years.
Omot is easily a tier above every transfer last year.

In terms of transfer rankings the only two ranked a little higher than Omot are Garcia and Mitchell.

So yes, he is at least a tier above basically everyone we’ve landed minus Garcia and Mitchell. I’ll throw Willis in there too because he was nasty.

I hope he plays well but they just gave him the same rating they did last year because he played 4 games last season for whatever reason.

Until proven wrong, I trust Niko, his evaluations, his roster construction and his system. He does have a proven record of success and putting teams together, unlike our previous coach. Competence is good.
Let's wait until off-season, and for that matter, the season until we pass judgment on his recruits.

He got hurt.

Personally I think he’s gonna return to form. Maybe not 17ppg in a bigger/tougher conference but 12-15 a game on 45% a game or higher seems like it’s possible

He played the 4 games and then was injured and out for the year.

Thought you would have known that from your evaluation of his skill level.

As for JCJ, he started on a tournament team that narrowly missed the Sweet 16. So maybe, he’s more qualified than a bunch of guys from mid-majors who failed to make the tourney.

No one knows what injury he had.

Your 3rd paragraph contradicts your 2nd paragraph considering where BJ Omot came from. I hope they're both great.

As far as top transfers in the last few years I would have to rank

Dawson
Battle
Hawkins
BJ Omot
M.Mitchell
JCJ

In that order, probably forgetting someone
Forgetting Willis, but good list.

Willis would slot in above Mike Mitchell for sure in terms of production. But he was also a proven commodity having already played for us previously.

Before his got injured and played in only 4 games in 24/25.

F Mitchell and Rigsby both won B10 games for us this year. They improved significantly from the beginning of the season. Both would have been contributors this next season if still here.

Big Frank could be helpful in certain systems. Rigby was extremely inconsistent and had 2 or 3 good games all year. One was near the end of the season. Which doesn't mean he greatly improved. It means he got a hot hand in 1 game near end of season. That's all. He was also poor defensively as couldn't defend adequately. Thanks to him for coming to MN, but we can (and will) do much better.

No doubt if CBJ had kept is 23/24 roster together we wouldn't have needed Mitchel or Rigsby. The gophs were 1 game away from not making the B10 tournament and we wouldn't have made it without them. Sure, we could've had some different players other than those 2 but we didn't. They were certainly frustrating much of the time, but they did secure a couple of games for us.

Hopefully Medved does a slightly better job at bringing in impactful transfers than CBJ as well as keeping them for more than 1 year. People had the same expectations when Pitino and CBJ arrived too although I was skeptical of both of them with no experience.

With all due respect I feel like we need to actually see the new guys play here before they can be ranked against other transfers we have brought it.

Prior to us getting any commits, I didn't expect much improvement over last year in terms of actual record in the upcoming year. The first two transfer recruits haven't done anything to change my mind. Does that mean Ben Johnson shouldn't have been fired? Of course not.

I liked what I saw from Colorado State in the games I watched late in the year so I think a good hiring choice was made. But, this is another rebuilding year and Niko isn't John Calipari, a guy who can make an immediate upgrade to an institution's recruiting quality.

We need Niko to do more than a slightly better job than CBJ in getting impactful transfers. I think he has a much better chance with a little money and a track record of running a program.

I think where Niko will excel is finding the 7th, 8th, and 9th guys who can contribute—watching his CSU team and seeing guys be impactful that deep off the bench for long stretches was fun.

We fans may scratch our heads as some bench guys commit, but we will be pleasantly surprised at how well they mesh within Niko's system.
