All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

Why would Oats move to Maryland in the first place? The Maryland admin is more dysfunctional than the Gophers and they have a lot less $$$ than Alabama, even for basketball.
And Oats is a hardcore Bible banger who’s absolutely at home in the deep
South. He’s not going back up North.

Seen this a couple times today. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Sounds like agent posturing to me. Maryland is a mess and Oats would have to go to a place that takes education a bit more seriously than Alabama.

I was surprised Willard bolted the B10 for the BE, but upon reflection, there might be logic in it. The BE, unlike the ACC/B10/B12/SEC, doesn't have to rev share with football. I don't know how the math works out with the TV contracts, but it could be they get more dollars for hoops than the other P4 schools do after the rev share split. And the coaches get to be the big dogs on campus, too - sounded like Willard was upset that their athletic department was pouring resources into football and wouldn't let their team stay an extra day in NYC over the holidays. Football is the driver - let's not kid ourselves. Just not true in the BE.

every 5 or 6 years, Buzz is good for a generally lateral move. In 2031 he’ll be announced at some Big 12 school, which will allow him to coach for the cycle and coach in all P5 conferences.

Didn't see SEC and B1G poaching coaches from within and from power conference to power conference. Wild West out there.

There was zero chance Oats was leaving Alabama. His buyout to walk away is $18 million. It didn't take any agent or anyone else to figure out he was not leaving Bama.

I'm guessing the originator of that "scoop" was looking to create waves, get clicks, and gain following. It probably worked.
