Kevin Willard didn't show up to dinner with his team, the night before the Sweet 16.

Really bad form on Willard’s part if he ditched his team the eve of Sweet 16. There can’t be one person involved in this process that would not understand he needs to be with his team. Willard has always rubbed me the wrong way. This just confirms my perceptions.

man that's a crazy story given they are about to play a Sweet 16 game!

He's handled it brutal, but hard to avoid in the world of rapid fire hiring while competing in the tournament. Obviously had they lost last weekend, he's at Villanova and all have moved on.

Instead he was frustrated with loss of AD and decided to vent in the public basically rubbing the president the wrong way.

The school should be able to fire him for insubordination and settle. Maybe it's better to get a buyout.

Kind of want them to win tonight and draw out the drama even more.

Saw that Barta did not have a buyout clause for taking another job, so Iowa owes him full $4.45M while he coaches at another school. Iowa faithful not happy with the old AD.
Righteous bucks.

Nice deal for Penn.
If I'm tracking this right, it would not have involved Penn at all anyway. He was fired, and either way Penn wouldn't be involved other than their own terms with Fran. It's more about would Fran have had to accept less from Iowa in the event he took another job in x mo's, etc.

You’re probably right. I had the idea of Iowa paying the difference between his Iowa salary and what Penn pays him. My guess is he’s working for a discount at Penn, nevertheless. I’d work for free if my previous employer was paying me near $4 million.

I didn't find a thread that seemed to fit so I'll throw it in here since it at least involves Maryland. When I look at tonight's games, the ones that have me jazzed the most are BYU-Bama and Arkansas-Texas Tech. I think Maryland gets bounced tonight. Duke-Arizona interesting matchup also. Just saw Tommy Lloyd signed top ten recruit Koa Peats. He can flat-out recruit, puting aside any portal-related. Then he has another of LeBron's sons signed as well.

Penn outsmarted Iowa. As expected.

He's in the semi-sunset of his career, gets to go back home, coach in a great environment. I think you're probably right he is working for a discounted rate. And I agree with you, I would too.
