2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

Because they haven't been very good. This Gopher team was touted as the deepness being why they would be better off than top heavy teams like 2023. Now it's just a significantly worse forward unit top to bottom than 2023.

WMU 4th line has 15 goals, 35 points, and between +10 and +15.
Bonin, can you give us anything where you think this Gopher team has an advantage this weekend? You have made it very clear that we don't have an advantage in the following: coaching, power play, depth, game strategy, goal tending, shootouts, high-end talent. I am sure the list goes on. Is there anything, no matter how little, that you might perceive as a Gopher advantage?

Over WMU? To be honest no not really I think they are just a better hockey team. They have 30 wins and are 19-3 in 2025.

But upsets happen.

Same feeling I had against BU. Just a better hockey team. But drove down and watched because there is always hope. But in the end the better team won and IMO the Gophers never really looked in that game.

the KRACH has us within about 50 points of each other so at worst slightly under a coin flip. We have better offense from the defensemen, we know you love Bump but in terms of "top" players its at worst even. They have a better goalie. I don't feel optimistic we make it to STL and am perfectly fine with this team being overlooked. I think that suits them just fine

D point totals appear quite similar and Rinzel and Chesley racked up points with the early weak schedule. Would love to check D points in 2025 / games played. Maybe can run it tomorrow.

MN: 26G, 74A (Whipple excluded); 2nd half pts Rinzel 11, Chesley 8, Koster 13, Mittelstadt 10, Thomas 5, Gruba 0; Total 47 (out of 100) in 19/39 games.

WMU: 19G, 79A; looking generally, they're split about the same in 1st and 2nd half

tbh, didn't realize their top D guys are so integral at the bumper play with Bump (Vaisanen particularly) though I should've given how much I end up watching them (NCHC is on CBS sports and we get that as part of Youtube TV);

No team is hotter than WMU in the 2nd half so shouldn't have surprised me. They've scored 97 goals in the 2nd half (4.4/G) compared with 70 for MN (3.7/G).

They are a damn difficult matchup but my comment about more offense from the D is that their D join the rush and bounce it around in zone, ours are creating more rushes. If Rinzel (and to a lesser extent Koster given he's been excellent offensively in the 2nd half) is dead silent we're going to be in trouble as creating chances is going to have to come off the rush as I don't think we're going to cycle the puck all night against WMU (if we even get the chance to play them).

Wondering how they keep Pahlsson out of the faceoff dot in the NCAA tournament.

I suppose:
Kurth - Clark - Wood
Ziemer - Moore - Snuggerud
Hendrickson - Påhlsson/Mittelstadt - Lamb/Nevers

Pahlsson has one point in ten games so meh if he doesn't play much. Needed more from him and Gruba this year.

The right choice. Airey sucks. Souliere has at least played in big NCAA games.

OSU is toast.

NCAA Tourney begins:
Hockey East: 1-0
Big Ten 0-1

Higher seed: 1-0
Drafted goalies vs undrafted goalies: 1-0
Former Gopher recruits/players: 1-0 (2 goals so far)

Next up: NCHC vs CCHA and another drafted goalie vs undrafted goalie.

Side note BU might be equally as douche bags as UM. It's close.

They’re#1 and 2 in the country in d baggery. Watching terness implode and osu follow was tough to watch.

I don't understand Begley in the lineup over Michel. Begley does nothing at F. Michel at least hustles when needed.

Well Michel did also take a massive horrible penalty and get ejected once

Ok you gotta do it again now post MSU debacle

Typical Big Ten choke when it counts

ECAC 1-0
Big Ten 0-2

Higher seed: 1-1
Drafted goalies vs undrafted goalies: 1-1
Former Gopher recruits/players: 1-0 (3 goals so far)

Can’t win face offs and can’t score on breakaways. Unfortunately that has been a calling card of gopher hockey lately.

Sneaky feeling that whoever scores the next goal will win the game
