Like we all knew

Looking at it now, it is the goalie region of death other than the Gopher goalies
Big sigh... I was thinking this was a pretty good draw for the Gophers. Now I know it is the "goalie region of death." Sounds really bad.

So are we gonna hate on msu for playing shell and giving up a 2 goal lead in the 3rd?
Playing shell (or other sports version of it) is one of the most avoidable be frequently made mistakes across football, hockey, soccer, and basketball. I think coaches are afraid of getting criticized for getting burned being too aggressive with a lead. It doesn't annoy me when other teams do it because them losing doesn't bother me. But it's a mistake.

Well excuse me
Hey TRF. Appreciate the post. We'll see this afternoon if this is correct but should at least be very close. Are you making the drive over from TRF to Fargo if that's where we go?

And they won the game in the end so it's moot

MSU did, DU didn't.

I agree with @bleedsmaroonandgold that it doesn't make sense if it goes away from your normal style of play. That to me is why it never makes sense to me for a Gopher team to do it. To me, really didn't make sense for either of the teams last night to drop back as DU was smothering WMU and controlling the puck with an aggressive forecheck. For MSU it was a bit more open, but still much the same. I'll be curious if we get down to say WMU what they do (given they say they are always a push forward team).

As a fan, can always live with if you lose playing your game and I'm sure that's why 2023 will burn for many of us forever, even if a lot of it is attributable to QU playing very well and smothering us plus a real soft goal given up, a missed open cage, and a very strange single minor being given to our star guy for a clear coincidental type situation.

They would lock it down but Bump would continue to push the offense. They will not go into full shell Qpac game mode for two periods.

On a different note, unsure exact timing of voting, but will be interesting to see if Snuggy makes 2nd team AA at all at this point given the west forward group is pretty stacked. I think he will, but it's going to be a lot closer than it looked earlier in the year

To me,
ahead for sure: Fink, Howard, Devine
even: Bump, Thompson
under consideration but behind: Pitlick, Schlaine, Kirwin, King

Probably? Gave up EA/late goals to UND, Omaha, MTU, DU (twice) this year. Personally I like that they keep pushing as it's their identity, just always curious as to how teams handle it regular season vs post-season. And I don't think anyone ever advocates for shell for 2 periods (and don't think we did either but rather got outplayed for large swaths at that point from QU pushing; 3rd period yeah seemed more shell, keep them outside where 2nd we were just getting outplayed)

That's a great point about playing your game. The thing that offends me most about prevent offense is the logic is basically "what we have been doing is so effective we have a lead, so now let's stop doing what the other team hasn't shown they can beat."

very well said and I think especially problematic when the lead is 1. If it's 2-3 with 5 min left, obviously there are game theory components to it, but I'd much rather go down playing your game as you succinctly describe it

Unfortunately I have another commitment that weekend or I definitely would of

UMass has arguably the best forward in the country and an NHL bound goalie I dreamed of the Gophers getting in a miracle. It'll be a tough matchup.
Until, if the Gophers are fortunate to win, they play Western Michigan....who then has arguably the best forward in the country and an NHL bound goalie you dreamed of the Gophers getting.

You're a real treat!

There are two first round games on ESPN+? Not even espnu or news? Are you fucking kidding me?

Is kind of a bad deal; you'd at least think ESPN3 should be an available outlet for all tournament games. Really trying to push the +.

Exactly. That's what they used to do. ESPN360/ESPN3. They are just doing this to screw college hockey fans and they will literally make like 200 bucks and lose a lot more eyes that would be watching those two games.

Fortunately, I have one of the Verizon packages that gives you the Disney Bundle for free:
Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+
Otherwise, I would NOT pay up for ESPN+

Exactly. No reason to as that is the least appealing package of content.
Xfinity with all the ESPN channels and BTN
BTN+ (just because of hockey)
Netflix
HBO Max (via AT&T)
Peacock (via Xfinity)
Apple TV
F1 TV

It's too much. We had Hulu and never found anything interesting. With no kids, Disney+ is a waste, too. And ESPN+ doesn't add anything to the picture.

They clearly don't care to grow the college hockey game as it's not even on their radar, but it's frustrating to miss out on what could be a couple good games.

Sure yours is still free with Verizon? Ours used to be, but not any more. They make some small changes and ours is no longer free. It’s not a lot but it’s not free anymore.

With those criminals, like with Xfinity, nothing is "free". I'm looking to kick Xfinity cable to the curb once the season is over after huge price increases.

I ditched xfinity for DirecTv last fall and couldn't be happier. Strongly recommend.

Does it have NHL Network and BTN?
Yes, I don't recall if I paid for a separate package but it has those, ESPNU, SEC net, etc. basically all sports.

Only thing was I had to download an extra app to watch the state tournament but that was free.

Falloon is out and preseason title contenders will have a former D3 player as a 12th forward in the tournament.

all the more reason to not play the 4th line much which is all everyone has been clamoring about for multiple years

Because they haven't been very good. This Gopher team was touted as the deepness being why they would be better off than top heavy teams like 2023. Now it's just a significantly worse forward unit top to bottom than 2023.

WMU 4th line has 15 goals, 35 points, and between +10 and +15.
