Gopher Softball 2025

Turned the game off in the 4th as Gophers were down 5-0 and haven’t hit the ball out of the infield.

I didn’t wait until the 4th, as soon as that ball was hit it was over.
I get that sinking feeling these days watching most all Gophers sports, men and women. I thought of buying a subscription to Big+ for today's game, but after one inning I knew why I hadn't. This is a Nebraska the Gophers beat 16 times in a row not long ago. Now they can't even get a runner past first base. It seems the Athletic Dept is falling hopelessly behind in recruiting.

The Gopher athletic program writ large is not in a good spot right now. Only football seems to be carrying its weight in my opinion. Many other Gopher sports teams appear to have dropped off quite a bit from 5-10 years ago; especially on the women’s side.

I guess it's time to focus on our academics.

I think gymnastics, soccer and women’s basketball (when healthy) are still in a good place

What I'd most like to hear from some folks in the know is how or why the Gophers softball has been allowed to fall to such a low level in both on-field performance and coaching is so short a time? What's going on?

Wouldn’t shock me if they end up cutting the program if they’re looking to save money.

Figured I’d turn on the game. Gophers were up 2-0. Gophers then made four errors with three coming from Chard at first who could not catch or stop a ball. Nebraska was still batting and it was 4-2. Seen enough of this team.

Someone needs to teach this team defense. Six errors is ridiculous, especially 3 by the first baseman in a single inning. I think the pitching staff might appreciate not having to get more than 3 outs per inning.

I'd wager just watching some clips on YouTube is better than whatever the coaches are teaching them.

I agree. I didn’t want to make the list too long, but volleyball, track &field andX-country have shown continued success each year.
I strongly support the college sports of track and field, cross country, gymnastics, and women’s soccer… but I bet not 0.05 percent of the Minnesota population can name a single student athlete on any of those teams.

That’s probably true. Maybe the reason for their success comes from working as a team, not having individuals trying to be a superstar. Men’s teams could learn from the women.

Limited to non-existent media coverage.

For the first time in 11 years I'm missing a Gophers' softball home game today. Partly because of illness in the family, partly because I might not have gone anyway. Tired of seeing the program embarrass itself.

Softball is losing its appeal as everyone is playing to see who will lose to Oklahoma in the WCWS.
Gymnastics isn't far behind, LSU/Oklahoma's scores are a wide margin from everyone else. Doesn't matter if Gophers make the finals if their max score is 1.2 behind the leaders

You could say this for a lot of other Gopher programs, they need to be almost perfect while hoping their opponents messes up.

Gophers squander their chance and what do you know Northwestern scores in the next inning also JSC stadium is now Evanston North.

Finally got decent pitching for the most part (Richardson walks was a killer in the first inning) and 6 hits in 2 games, pathetic. Where will the power hitters come from next year with Kraft and Valencia gone?

Hard to know where they go from here. Clean house and try to start over?

Recruiting and $$$$. Softball won’t be getting any revenue sharing money, so donors will have to step it up AND coaches will have to identify talent that the big-time programs overlook and convince them to come here.

This program will have to completely bottom out and then some before the administration would make a coaching change, so we’d better hope Piper & Co. can figure it out.

Revenue sharing is going to football, mbb, ebb, men’s hockey and volleyball.
