It would seem he is the better coach. Yes, they beat a quality team yesterday. Can he get the power conference roster together to play that style over a full power conference schedule. That would be the question I have.

At the D2 level, while the coaching is impressive and again, I'd be just fine and excited about him as a coach, it's a totally different ballgame. We have no idea what his recruiting acumen is for top tier talent and like it or not, as PJ says, that's the lifeblood of a program.

I truly do not know, I think it's possible absolutely.

Again to be clear, I'd be happy with either, my assertion is that saying one is obviously so much better than the other seems ridiculous with the knowledge we have on each.

I really, truly do not understand this sentiment. I just don't get it. Can he coach? Yes. But the recruiting is a huge risk that is unproven in all aspects, not to mention the transfer portal. I think he'd figure it out, I think he'd work well, but a sure thing from a total program overseer aspect I don't get.
 

MN will never have better talent than the rest of the B10. To think that's changing with a new coach, even with more NIL/revenue sharing, is ... optimistic. Must be able to play Moneyball and identify gettable talent that will fit. I don't know that McCollum will be more successful than Medved in a similar situation (as Iowa is), but I definitely would bet on it.

Minnesota has every opportunity and the ability to have the talent of players that Wisconsin and Iowa have gotten. Wisconsin certainly isn't playing "moneyball" this year.

They're literally the definition of what I mean - they lost Hepburn and Storr due to $$$, went shopping in the scratch and dent aisle and came up with Tonje - he was not a high-priced free agent.

It occurs to me that "Moneyball" might be a confusing term if you don't know what it refers to - it does not mean go buy your roster for top dollar. It means the opposite - putting together a roster on the cheap, but with a purpose, like the Oakland A's did (and the source of the term). Sorry for the mansplain, but I see "student" in your username, so it may be something younger people don't know.

This. Keep in mind that Purdue's national title contender a couple three years ago were 3- and 4-star recruits. I don't think they had a 5 on the roster. Wisconsin has done it with 3- and 4-star guys with the exception of Butch and Dekker. They find talent; they develop it.

Absolutely not, when it comes to this matter. Talent is talent, and a good team is a good team. There only is so much talent in the world.
