Would have been awesome to land a Chris Beard or Will Wade. St.John's took a risk with Pitino, and now look they are a #2 seed in the tourney. That being said, go Omaha!
A risk on Pitino? He's a hall of fame, NCAA championship coach. His only flaw was allowing an assistant to pay for hookers. Today, in the Wild West, paying hookers is insignificant to all the other backroom deals going on. St John's didn't risk anything, they simply wrapped their arms around the Wild West.

Well, you're not wrong.... but still considered a risk for many and that's why he ended up at a St. John's and not a Texas for example. Would rather have someone like Wade and not whatever Louisville and adidas were wrapped up into. That being said, I'm sure many more schools did the same things and never got caught. Go Omaha!

"Fly Me to the Moon", originally titled "In Other Words", is a song written in 1954 by Bart Howard. The first recording of the song was made in 1954 by Kaye Ballard.

The Sinatra version came out in 1964.
Ok, but it was a Sinatra signature song, not Tony Bennett (either the crooner or basketball coach).

The whole "the U would never hire Wade with his background and the U's scandal" is just such BS....NCST has had very publicized "scandals" in their past (Jimmy V, anyone?) but has no problem hiring Wade. They will be a national title contender within a couple of years.

Do hookers fall under revenue sharing or NIL?

Those making the comments you are referring have no clue what the U would or would not do hiring wise.

This....he had to go to Iona to build back his resume, much like Wade did at McNeese. Obviously, I was pulling for a Wade hire, but I'll be pulling for Niko.

He had a major conference job and went 18-46 in Big XII play.

Maybe he's better at a small school which only focuses on basketball?
Maybe true, but he now has lots more experience and does well recruiting like gettin MN GOTY Jackson McAndrew and he looked pretty good in the tourny today. His total pay was 3M, I would think 5M a year would get him to answer the phone at least. If he simply likes Creighton more power to him!

If Gophers were able to lure McDermott away from Creighton, could their whole starting 5 transfer with him to pair with Asuma and others... 3 are seniors (do they have grad transfer eligibility? Then Freshman McAndrews would think be one and then their other is a sophomore 6 ft 8 F. Get it done Coyle!

I would pay more money to bring Greg McDermott to MN over Medved. He has good track record for his assistants too.

Marcus absolutely would not allow, based on Greg's past comments to motivate his players...

Thanks for the assist, not sure how I could have forgotten Iona, being that I picked them in my bracket once or twice as a 13 seed

Its not BS it is true and you know it. The U would never hire him. NC State doesn't care just like their big brother school doesn't care. (and most of the NCAA)

You might think the reasoning is BS and I might agree with you but the U would never even call Wade because the media would eat them alive for it.

I tend to agree with you.....which makes the U an unserious program with no real commitment to winning. I think the reasoning is BS.

Could not agree more.

Then the U is pathetic.

The media would eat him alive? Who?
Why?

And for that matter, who cares if they do?

The U wouldn't let Tubby hire Jimmy Williams as an assistant coach in 2007 because he was mentioned in an NCAA report about recruiting under Musselman in 1975

Nevermind he was a Gopher assistant and interim head coach in the 1980s. Then coached through the 90s and 00s. The U had to pay him 1 million after being sued.

The U does.

And are you really asking who? The local media loves going after the U for everything when it comes to athletics. Christ Channel 9 did a friggin expose on the hockey team drinking at a bar once!

I am not saying it makes any sense but the amount of bad press that would come from hiring Wade would stop them. Should it? That's not for me to decide but denying it is denying reality.

You forgot the worst part about Wade - he doesn’t fill up the gas before he returns his rental cars!

The academics running the University care, that’s who. For as long as I’ve been a student and alum, every president, from Ken Keller to Rebecca Cunningham, and the Board of Regents have viewed athletics as a necessary evil that was fine when it’s quiet, but a complete pain in the ass to them when there’s a whiff of trouble. They’re conflict averse in the extreme.

We joke about Pitino not filling the rental car gas tank because the local media actually tried to make that a story.

To be fair, do we really know that yet about the current President? She does come from Michigan.
