All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

If you received a job offer from your wife’s hometown that allowed you to live in the same city as her entire side of the family, would you consider it?

Good point. I'm not sure that I would have wanted to coach in the same city with my entire side of the family either.

I'm not too worried about it. Medved is an alum, gopher fan, and very strong ties to the state. It's his job not his wife's job.

I'm married and my wife is from Green Bay. If I had the option to take the Vikings coaching job vs the Packers, there wouldn't even be a hesitation.
So which one would you take?

In the mountains of West by God Virginia where my average road game is a 5 hour flight across the country? No thanks.

It's a gutwrenching choice. You're basically deciding which side of your family gets to see their kids and grandkids more, to be tighter with for the forseeable future.

That he tends to go back and be welcomed back places he was before is a great sign for how he represents a university. Minnesota, Furman, Colorado State -- all multiple trips.

I'm not going to try to analyze where the family negotiating goes from there, and I'd do horrible things to have the opportunity to make that choice for a 7 figure annual bag, but it's still really a tough one.

Taking family out of it:

-The B1G has and will have more $$ for revenue sharing than the Big 12.

-West Virginia is one of only states with a declining population and produces little talent.

-12 of the 16 schools in the Big 12 are between 900 and 2,000 miles away from Morgantown.

-The top of the Big 12 (Arizona, Houston, Kansas, Baylor, ISU) feels a lot more entrenched and hard to break into than the top of the B1G and BYU will be a problem if they're really going to be funded by a single billionaire.

The only possible advantage West Virginia has is NIL, which is unknown.

So we are just assuming that his wife wants to move back to West Virginia and her father has enough sway to force WVU's hand even though he didn't 12 months ago?

Man I thought it would take longer for people to think Medved is now out of our league...
I know ryt? Buncha sugar britches up in here.

I agree with all of this and I still think Niko will be our head coach in a week or two. But anyone who says WVU is a complete non factor is kidding themselves.

I’ll say it and think it without kidding myself.

WVU is a non factor.

The choice is less gut wrenching if you had already signed with one team before the other job opened up.

Will Wade was never going to coach here, let's be honest about it.

Niko, like any coach, should expect financial resources 1:1 with our competitors. Anything less is subsistence-level nomadic migration bird feed. We should at least strive for a Type 1 civilization in the basketball world.
Word. Salad.

Why? I hate posts like these....Tubby Smith came here a couple of years after winning a National Championship.....this belief that Minnesota is a unable to make hires like Wade is a facade. If they wanted to, they could.
