2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Not surprising to see some Iowa guys jumping in the portal while their coaching situation is up in the air.
Wonder if Harding ends up with Freeman as a package deal, both played for Moline (HS).

Frank's advanced stats are pretty good. His player efficiency rating in conference games was 22.6 (barely behind Garcia's rating). If he qualified (in terms of minutes) for the leaderboard, he would be #1 in offensive rebound percentage and #4th in total rebound percentage in the conference. He managed this while being significantly undersized compared to other centers in the league. If he gets the ball near the basket, he puts it in with a high completion rate. And, as we've seen, he is very good at putting in missed shots.

He definitely will have some interest even if teams are looking for him to play only about 15-20 minutes per game.
if frank mitchell transfers it will be to a lower level

If he wants a guaranteed starting role he might have to drop down a little in class but if he goes into the portal I think he will get some looks from major conference teams as a big body who can come in off the bench and provide solid production.

Frank played really well over the second half of the Big Ten season. He can 100% compete at this level. Hopefully he sticks around here and is part of the team next year.

This is laughable. He had multiple double doubles playing 20 minutes and was probably the 2nd/3rd best player the 2nd half of the season. Why would he transfer down?
i guess we can wait and see if he hits the portal.....

he had 3 double doubles playing over 20 minutes
outside of those 3 games he had 9 other games where he played 18 plus minutes(5 games of over 20 minutes) and he averaged 5 PPG and 6 RPG

if he hits the portal, which i for one hope he doesnt......im not sure hes going to have as many options as you think he will

maybe saying he WILL transfer down was a bit of a reach.....will all depend what he is personally looking for

I hope Niko adapts to the players he can recruit. I loved what Rick Pitino said the other day. Set your culture. Get the talent in place and then make sure your system fits the players you have.

I know John Wooden came to believe that. He had a ton of conference/local success with his culture and was looking at a bad year in 1963-64. His assistant Johnny Norman convinced him to switch to Zone Press to match his team. They’re tallest guy was 6-7 (i think). Obviously height was a much bigger deal then too.

Of course his team performed went 30-0 and won Wooden’s first National Title.

Maybe this quote from his coach didn't help matters?

"Disappointing effort. Disappointing outcome. But played true to the pitiful, embarrassing season we've had," English said. "That falls on me and the work to correct it begets, and we will."

Iowa's portal will be interesting. If they get McCollum, it will be interesting to see who sticks. Completely different pace of play and emphasis than McCaffery.

Won if Niko has any connections to the Iowa kids if he comes here and sees them as fits.

Complete speculation and fascination on how the Portal will workout.

Maybe Hopkins should consider Minnesota. We're used to "disappointing effort, disappointing outcomes, and pitiful, embarrassing seasons."

Hopkins was a high-ranking recruit (#33 RSCI). Looks like he was hurt most of the year, though; only played 3 games. He did well in those 3 games.

Despite his abilities, I'm not sure I'd want Freeman. Pryce Sandfort is a fine shooter with some size so there's always a place for someone like him. Harding isn't as bad as some Iowa fans' complaints about him but he is small.

He's not that different a player than Payne. Not as strong of a shot blocker, but rebounds just as well on both ends of the floor, doesn't make a lot of stupid fouls as Payne did, and he doesn't turn the ball over a lot - again Payne did. Only making that comparison because Payne had plenty of options leaving. So would Frank.

Maybe he recruits players to how he wants to play. He has an offensive system that is pretty flexible, and he was able to recruit players to CSU who could play it. He'll be able to do that here. Defense is defense - they have been solid.

That's my hope. Recruit players to your system. If you can do it at CSU you can do it here.

Josh Dix is in the portal today too, he's probably the best of all of them. Freeman seems like he's gonna get a huge bag from a big fish and be relatively disappointing there (sort of Hunter Dickinson-esque).

I peruse the Iowa fan threads sometimes and they've had discussions about players leaving or staying if McCaffrey was fired. I remember that a number of them thought Dix would look towards Nebraska (likely Creighton) since he's from right across the river from Omaha.

We need a doctor to fix our rebounding 🚑🚑🚑
A 6-8 guard? Even if he's from the SWAC, get him here! From a Golden Lion to a Golden Gopher?
