2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

Ridiculous rule to erase two minutes of play where a goal occurred. The refs missed the call, play went on and we scored. That has happened since the beginning of hockey.
Out of curiosity - if the intervening play had not resulted in a goal, would those 2+ minutes still been added back on?

Legendary is in the eye of the beholder. Much like Nebraska football. The old-timers remember the "glory years". But you have a generation of young fans that haven't witnessed a national championship, and can only hear about them from dads and uncles pining for the good old days.
I don't think the Nebraska comparison is quite on point. Nebraska had their glory years of national championships, followed by the Pelini years of good but not great (clearly second tier), and then alternating between mediocrity and legitimately bad. The Gophers have gone longer than I would like since a national title, but have had frozen four and national title game appearances since then, and have spent significant time as the number 1 ranked team (including deep into seasons when it is based on legitimate body of work, not the preseason hype that has resulted in Nebraska's best rankings being before they started playing games).

In other words, we've been a legitimate top tier team that has frustratingly not made it to the top of the mountain since 2003. Nebraska football has been full on pretenders during that same time.

Except every fan over the age of 2 has seen us play in a title game, and every fan over 3 has seen multiple frozen fours. Awful, awful comparison.

Yes I believe it would’ve be gone back to where the Major should’ve been assessed, which feels weird when you have such a long period of time

Maine has a pretty decent chance of getting screwed into playing a host team in PSU in the first round.

Also potential second round opponent Providence has a top scorer with only 23 points. That's nuts.

Providence to me seems to be the 2 you’d want to draw.
Lost to UND
2-0 vs ASU
1-1 vs umass
0-3 vs BC
0-1-1 vs UML
1-0-1 vs UConn
0-1-1 vs maine
1-1 vs BU

There’s just not a ton there that looks worrisome. 26th in scoring, 13th in GA, 50th in pp%, 32nd in pk%.

Other 2s are wmu who have been dominant at times, BU and their fire power and new goalie, and uconn who are 11-2-3 since Christmas.

What are the odds we get the Toledo regional? Selfishly asking because it's close to me. Probably pretty low right? We'll get Fargo and Michigan State will get Toledo?

as the western most 1 seed, unless there's some weirdness with a bunch of HE teams or autobids who flip things around (UNH qualifying would be the biggie) that drives BC or Maine west, it's not happening. We'll end up in Fargo almost assuredly unless we drop to the 5 and Maine is the 4 and they ship us out there to play them (even then it's unlikely for attendance)

Are we basically locked into a #1 seed if we beat ND this weekend?

Ya especially if it's a sweep.
in reality it probably takes getting swept to drop. 1-2 leaves us about even with Maine. WMU not going to get much/any help from 2 with Miami followed by 2 with STC or UMD the same as it's pretty much an only hurt type weekend for us (sweeping ND increases our RPI by .0018; WMU sweeping this weekend goes up .0001; if they lose one game, they drop to 7th in the PWR).

And just like that... Mr. Eiserman and Mr. Yegorov have BU up to sixth in the PW and the potential to come out west and steal a regional in front of lots of Gopher fans two years in a row.

I mean that’s the same team who hasn’t won 2 games in a row since early February and lost to NE, Providence and Merrimack in that span. Crazy bipolar team I’ll be 0% surprised if they lose right away despite having the talent to win it all

The 3 HE teams in the 2nd band are going to change right up to the date of the HE final as they’re all within .003 in rpi. Will be interesting to see if committee keeps the higher ranked ones out east or goes for integrity of bracket

Michigan or Denver-BU would be a hell of a fun 1st round game though

I'm sure I've said this before but BIG+ is complete and utter ass. Hockey is always like 15 frames per second and constantly stuttering.

Maybe that’s why souly was complete ass tonight. Played like the puck was glitching

Our skaters were better, but our goalie was much worse.

Who was it that wanted second place in the conference cause it would be better to play Norte dame vs have a weekend off?

I watched lazy defense with a not frozen four worthy goalie. This team will not be in the frozen four

Was the defense supposed to block the shot from center ice or the one souly passed right to the ND guy? Just want to know to tell my nephews to help them be better

And your only goalie for next year is the backup to that... With zero in the pipeline. But no, we overreact about the recruiting being unacceptable and maybe the number 1 reason for no title since 2003.

"not frozen four worthy goalie". I mentioned the goalie. Gophers came out flat. Notre Dame came out hustling. The players are good enough to get to the FF but our goaltending is not top 10 in the country.

Top 10? Lmao, lucky if they're top 25
