2023-2024 College Basketball Other Games Thread

My guess is that if the pros were knocking with any kind of deal, he wouldn’t be at Ohio State. I’m not booing, but I’m not cheering either.
pros for Battle means overseas. NBA- no chance

Making over a million a year. Living in a great area and play in a great conference.
He met his wife at Colorado State Park believe and they love it there. He can make the tourney virtually every year there. No reason to move to a less desirable locale and struggle to make the tourney at Minnesota and deal with the expectstions here. He could stay and live a great life there.

What expectations do we have here, anyway? Pretty difficult to identify from the fan perspective.

BIG Games today
Ohio State vs Santa Clara (6-0) in Florida
Maryland at home against South Alabama

And yet he's only made the tournament once in 5 years there

This conversation is very silly. 998 times out of a 1,000 you leave a Mountain West job if offered a P6 job at your alma mater at triple the salary. The two exceptions might be Hawaii and SDSU when you're over 60. Fort Collins is ok, but it ain't those places.

Future opponent Ball State beats recent opponent Pine Bluff by 18. That must mean something about what our game with them should be like.

Are they both in a weird MTE with us?
Did Williams make six 30-35 footers against Ball State? If not it’s not really a comparable score.

Pretty sure Hawaii isn’t Mountain West.😂

I think they are Big West a major step down from Mountain.

But the point is taken.

Thanks. I’m not sure I would have made it through the evening without your insight.

You’re right about Hawaii - they are Big West in hoops. They’re in the MW in football and I made an assumption….

This might just be me, but when my wife and I visited Hawaii, it was clear to me that it's a place I could never live. Too isolated.

He and his wife love it there!

Cooper's South Carolina team still undefeated. Ta'Lon with only 4 turnovers in their 5 games, with 27 assists. 10 of 15 from the field the last two games, with 5 of 9 of those coming form behind the arc. Averaging over 30 minutes a game. Most on the team.
Thiam averaging 16 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists for High Point (3-3). Starts every game and gets over 27 minutes.
Thompson has started every game for Stetson (3-2). He's getting 20.8 minutes per game. Averaging 4 points, 4.6 rebounds. He has yet to record an assist in his 104 minutes and still searching for that first free throw attempt.

Did Kanye Clary get hurt in the PSU loss to VCU today? Only played a scoreless 9 minutes.

It's kind of bewildering that he was so terrible in his one year here. Except for his one year here, he's always been a fair to very good shooter.

Confidence is a huge thing. When you don't have it, it affects performance. He has athletic ability that's for sure...kind of a funky shot but when he's on he makes it work.

If only Betts hadn't crushed his confidence in practice...

Thank you. Appreciate these updates.

Go Gophers!!

He wasn't that terrible. He was simply not quick enough to be an effective point guard in the B1G. That was most obvious on defense. He could not guard quicker opponents, which he saw almost every game. We are almost always harder on our own players than objective measures are. His assist numbers were high.

It will be interesting to see how he fares against SEC competition.

Craig Smith and Utah are taking to St. Mary's right now.
Interesting comment from TV guys about Utah having an identity, doing what they do, sticking to it, and knowing that it might not always work but staying with it is best for long-term success.

Also noticed that the Utes played some tough defense that is rarely seen out west.

Just saying...

I wouldn't call him a point guard anywhere. He does not appear to be handling the bulk of those duties at High Point either. And, yes, he was terrible here according to "objective measures." Player efficiency rating of -1.3 and also a negative Win Shares Per 40 minutes number. To put those in perspective, Gaston Diedhiou's career Player Efficiency Rating here was 4.9 and the Win Shares per 40 number was .053.

What baffled me is that his shooting was even terrible here while he was a good shooter in junior college and has been pretty good at High Point. His True Shooting Percentage was 55.1% in his first year at High Point and a very good 64.6% this season. He was 33.5% in his one season here. Even Ahmad Gilbert was better than that.

Are you sure we're talking about the same player? Given that you said "SEC" you might be confusing him with Cooper. I would never say that Cooper was terrible in his one year here.
