All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

For some perspective, the MLB record for most in a season is 6 - held by Don Mattingly (1987) &Travis Hafner (2006) and is now tied for the third most all time with 18 others.

Included in the aforementioned 18 are-
Lou Gehrig (whose 23 grand slams rank second all-time), Babe Ruth (who hit four slams in 1919 while also winning nine games in his last season as a regular pitcher), Ralph Kiner, Mike Piazza and Edgar Martinez.

Mattingly never hit a grand slam before or after the 1987 season.

Tim Anderson do you like Korean BBQ?

I think you’ll be playing there in couple years- amazing that he won a batting title in the recent past.

I have a proposal for the twins. I hate striking out, but I’ve been told they are no different than other outs. The twins love to strike out. I am willing to accept the strikeouts but only if you stop striking out looking. The number of pitches taken right down the heart for called third strikes tonight is stupid.

Can't win them all (and damn Will Smith).

First day since September 6th that the Magic Number didn't go down.

Guardians have the Royals next. Let's not make it interesting. Win tomorrow.

Magic Number at 6.

Twins have 3 gms at Cincy next. Cleveland has 3-gm series with Kansas City.

pretty good chance that the Twins could clinch during the upcoming home stand against Angels and A's.

So if Lopez is to start game 1 and they continue with the 6 man rotation, they’d have to do 2 additional bullpen games.

WARNING!! this post could be triggering.

so Barreiro this morning was talking about the Twins' 18-gm playoff losing streak (yeah, I'm shocked).

I decided to do a deep dive into "the streak." here's what I came up with.

Runs scored: Twins 49 (avg 2.7). Opps 107 (avg 5.9)

Twins have scored 1 run (5x) - 2 runs (5x) - 3 runs (2x) - 4 runs (4x) - 5 runs (1x) - 6 runs (1x)
Opps scored 3 runs (2x)- 4 runs (3x)- 5 runs (3x)- 6 runs(3x)- 7 runs(2x)- 8 runs(4x)- 10 runs (1x)

Opps margin of victory- 1 run(4x)- 2 runs(2x)- 3 runs(4x)- 4 runs(3x)- 5 runs(3x)- 6 runs(2x).

bottom line - in the streak, Twins have not produced enough runs (12 of 18 gms with 3 runs or less)
and the Twins pitching has not been strong (allowed 5 or more runs in 13 of 18 games).

Captain Obvious says - if they can hit a little better and pitch a little better, they will give themselves a chance to win.
