8-10 conference wins is moderate success?

You sure you’re not looking for a different team’s board?

We’ve exceeded that level 4 times in the last 40 years.

Seems like here, that should be defined as success. At least if we want continuous program building.
The AD is not going to set a win total, a conference win total, or specific post season goal. He is going to look for solid improvement in all areas. The first is portal success this Spring. Second will be next year's recruiting class.

Finally, he will look at performance next season in terms of coaching, competitiveness and wins.

Coyle's evaluation will be a lot more comprehensive than that of many here.

Yes, agreed.

I was responding to someone else though in abstract fasion.

I’d add to your’s that it’s likely been predetermined based on State of program, before last year.

And it is clearly communicated by the buyout that people seem to hate (not to be confused with my feelings on said buyout).

However, that buyout is most likely strategic, to create barriers to AD meddling and changing goalposts. Or give something for us fans to lament. Thus creating lattitude for the coach. As oppossed to a realistic economic valuation that was ever considered excercizable.

I assume that a decent AD would sit with the coach, after the first year, and discuss a “state of the program,” planned process for improvements, and timeline. Hence, when CBJ states “judge me after 4 years,” that isn’t something that he is just saying gratuitously.

For those in the "many want Johnson to fail" argument, do you really think this board is full of people who will be disappointed in Johnsons success if this time next year we are coming off a top four B1G finish and a Sweet 16 run? With maybe 1 or 2 exceptions, I think this entire message board would be ecstatic.
I would be that’s for sure

I guarantee we won’t come in last place - that must have been something he said gratuitously.
