2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

Like who? Not that you'll respond with an actual answer.
Well we have some glass half full candidates depending on health and summer development. Puff is a highly regarded recruit who at 6-8 has not cracked the lineup much at NC- we may well do so at PSU. To match that we have Ihnen- who could be a 3, JOJ and Betts or we could go a little smaller with Carrington. But I am told here that guys in that 6-6 to 6-8 range on our team cannot play the 3 so that is the glass half empty view. We'll have to see.

To be fair to Puff, he scored 11 pts in the NCAA title game, these guys would never have seen the floor in the NCAA title game... so there is that.

I expect Betts to be the man. At least as we get further into the season. I will take all 3 well ahead of Puff.

Again. All of them. Puff would see very little playing time here.
crazy comment. all of our SFs on the roster as of today, would not have sniffed the floor during the NCAA title game of two years ago, Puff did...and he scored 11 points. While he may not see a lot of PT at UNC, they played in the national title game when he was a freshman, then they started last season as the #1 team in the land...which is a little higher than the Gophers started in the pre-season rankings (granted UNC was terrible all year...but they probably still finished 100+ spots ahead of the Gophers in KenPom).

And all those guys you mentioned aren't seeing the court if they played at NC. He's going to start at PSU, so we'll get to see first hand. Ihnen could barely crack it on avg Gopher teams. JOJ, Betts and Carrington wouldn't be in line for any PT if they were getting ready to play for the 2022 NC team. This dude played 18 minutes in a national title game, and played well.

So according to Rockraven, the Gophers have tons of NBA level talent, an all time great coach and every other team is trash. I guess the good news is that since he knows more than everyone else, he's going to make millions upon millions betting the Gophers over on wins, ya know since it's a lock. Then he will be able to fund all the NIL and we will win title after title. #Blessed

🤣🤣🤣

Puff is not an upgrade from Ramberg. Period.

And Hubert Davis is purging the bad eggs from the disastrous season they just had.

I will go down the road of everything stinks here if I see it this fall. I am holding a little optimism for the summer. I believe that one or more of the above will step up. I am looking for a team that fits together this year and guys that make each other better. I hope that happens and I am sure you do as well.

Ihnen is 30/104 on 3s in his career- not great at 28%
Puff is 20/81 25%

Puff has the better overall shooting percentage at 41% to 36% for II

II is rebound at about twice the level of Puff

Really what separates their careers right now is the injuries to II and the fact that Puff was on the NC roster. But he supposedly played for a much better coach which on certain days here means automatically better development- except for not today in this instance.

Thank you, Rockraven. At least you put an actual name to 1 of the 3 SF. Who are the other 2? Deal in specifics, not generalities.

I was optimistic heading into last year, so I'm in the I'll believe it when I see it mode. I was hoping for better results in the portal, even given his past failures. We haven't upgraded at all IMO. Which is my frustration.

This is similar to where I'm at and seems fair as a fan. Ben just hasn't been able to handle the portal. Still time this year I guess, but idk.

If you go to ESPN and look up his stats you will see he would not compete for a spot here. We could put any of the 4s, any 3 and several 2s way ahead of Puff. He is not productive and bad in the locker room. I’ll put our HS recruit way ahead of him at the 3. Christie. Move up from there. btw posted his line and left out a lot of negatives that he would not know. Ihnen should have a true break out year for us too. I put JOJ well ahead of Puff. Puff makes PSU easier for us to beat. Heck some people still see Battle as a loss.

Well we don't know that we haven't upgraded. We have Betts, Ihnen, Fox, Mitchell and Christie coming so far. We will get more. We have young guys that are going to be a lot better- the sophomore year is usually the big jump year if guys are going to do it. I am operating under the viewpoint that last year's team did no mesh well as a unit, the chemistry and the balance of the roster was off. Have we gotten a better player than Battle yet- probably not. Will who takes his place be more efficient in the team perspective? Probably. Nobody here calculates defense - because it is hard to do. That's where the coaches and players need to learn and grow the most.

You make good points. I'm just hesitant relying on completely unknown commodities. Betts, Christie and Fox haven't played at the D1 level, and Ihnen coming off two years of not playing and wasn't very productive when he was. I think Mitchell has the potential to be better than Cooper, and was a good addition. Hopefully the chemistry is better, because the talent level is probably the same.

College basketball. Players come, develop, and go. Constant churn.

Or you could be less of a dick...but hey why would you do that when you don't have to back up your attitude face to face amirite?!
It ok. The Badger fans who troll here have never liked me.
