2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

Will Ramburg would be out a scholarship then. Plus you can't keep 13 guys happy...
I'm sure Will Ramburg is a fine young man who works his a$$ off but to be blunt we need better players if this thing is ever going to get turned around. I will admit I don't know much about the portal players we are recruiting but would assume they can provide more than Ramburg and we need to go after as many of them as we can get. As far as not being able to keep 13 players happy, that is true, but we are always going to lose some players to the portal. Our priority is to keep the right ones.

I agree. Though if I were Ramberg, I'd be a bid PO'd that Jack Wilson gets a scholarship and I don't. After all, he outscored him 34-4 last year.

In any event, I doubt they can land 3 more. I'll be happy if they land two decent ones.

Then we need NIL.

Howdy, decent ain’t good enough.

In Summary:
Eli King committed to North Dakota
Curtis Jones committed to Iowa St.
Andrew Rohde committed to Virginia
Justin Mullins committed to Northwestern

Charlie Pride (Bryant) visiting Minnesota
Latrell Wrightsell (Cal. St. Fullerton) visiting Minnesota (in top 3)
Darius Brown II (Montana St.) visiting Minnesota (visiting 3 schools)
Sean Bairstow (Utah St.) visting Minnesota
2 scholarships left, 23 players who have not committed that I read somewhere or other that Minnesota has had an interest in or reached out to.

That defines the current state of our program. Players to the highest bidders and fighting for scraps in the transfer portal. When it comes to the state of collegiate athletics, NIL to me personally stands for "no interest left".

I think Pride and Wrightsell are significant difference makers. If we can find a way to get those 2 guys, I'm sold on this offseason. We need guys that are able to hunt shots and score.

Bairstow and Brown seem like fine takes. I'd love to not use Rambergs scholarship and use it on one of these guys. I feel that's a move that should be made if we can swing it. And I don't see why we couldn't swing it.

Agreed, but I doubt we do that.

I’m ranking
1) Pride
2) wrightsell
3) bairstow

I'd guess one of the two players will be Brown or Wrightsell. They both appear capable of playing some PG.

All of them are pretty interesting guys. Bairstow is big and actually has a little playmaking too him (averaged more assists than Wrightsell). I think Pride is the best of the group, but any combo of these guards makes sense.

He was a junior last season.
I know, but if he was graduating he may have not planned on coming back especially if he wasn’t on scholarship. Fact remains , I am pretty sure he stood on the court and was honored for senior night. That is not typically done if someone is coming back. I don’t think they will do that unless you are either graduating or using up eligibility.

At least, at the VERY least, get two of them.
No settling if one commits. That’s what I’m concerned about.

He's been out of high school four years, hard to tell what happened with the Covid year. I'm guessing he couldn't get back into Canada for the 2020-2021 season but he could have taken classes remotely. I'm doubting that though and am assuming he is a junior

I will be a ton more optimistic if we can get 2 of these 4... I'm all in if we can some how get 3 of 4

Canada?

And any news if he will actually visit here?

any 2 combo of Pride, Brown, & Bairstow and i still like the transfer class
Still think we need somebody that can handle that ball. All in on Brown at this point to relieve Mitchell a little bit.

I love Brown's all around stats as well. Does a little bit of everything and D Player of Year. Not bad at all.
