2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

Bairstow shot 38.6% from 3PT this year, but 12.5% (!) the previous year, after shooting 38.5% his sophomore year. Weird blip, but on relatively low volume (32/83 this year, 6/48 last year). Wonder what happened there. He is also a very bad FT shooter, 55% this year (and has declined every year of his 4 year career).

I think he has a much more varied/versatile game than a wing like Battle had. 78% of his shots were 2's, compared to a Jamison Battle who only shot 44% of his shots as 2 pointers. If you check out his highlight video on Youtube, there are lots of transition buckets/dunks. The first two highlights are actually assists from him (averaged 3.3 per 40 minutes to Battle's 2.0 per 40 minutes) so I like to see that he is not just a dead end with the ball. JOJ's per 40 assists was 0.6!

He is a 5th year senior, this team can definitely use more maturity and leadership. Fun fact, his brother Cam Bairstow was drafted by the Bulls 49th overall in 2014 and played parts of a couple seasons.

No idea on his defense. 6'8" 190 is nice size for a wing though.

Did any of these athletes know they were supposed to call Ben.

8. Jayden Epps committed to Georgetown
9. Jalen Cone committed to California
10. Justin Mullins is setting up a Northwestern visit
11. Andrew Rohde visited Creighton yesterday and is predicted to transfer there

I still have 25 on the list of folks that I read somewhere or other that we reached out to or might be interested in.

Nice work. Appreciate you typing it out.

I'm a little surprised the Gophers wouldn't look at someone like this with our gaping hole at the 3. He doesn't put up big numbers, but he was a solid veteran rotation player who hit big shots for K State this year.

Not necessary, when you are this loaded already bench depth for practice becomes the only logical focus.

Huggins has a couple of nice portal get's. . .

Per the article. . .

"Spearheaded by the Country Roads Trust collective, founded by Forbes-listed billionaire Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick and former Mountaineers athletic director Oliver Luck, West Virginia has significantly increased its activity in the name, image and likeness (NIL) space, reeling in one of the transfer portal's top point guards in Arizona's Kerr Kriisa."

Rohde would be a nice fit at Creighton. Fill right in for Nembhard’s departure.

Since it says top rated I can only assume none of these are players we're after.... Not trying to be snarky... Just being real
Totally true. Only caveat is these all have trickle down effects. Say we are after player x and its us Bama and Nebraska. Guy at same position as X picks Bama. Ok good we might have a better shot, or vice versa.

Roderick Payne signing incoming

For real or having some fun with us?
Nah sorry. That was just me poking fun at a guy like him being our “high end” type of transfer today.

Although I’m not opposed to him being on the team if they land Wrightsell and Baristow first. Seems like a good energy guy.

And having a Payne X2 lineup seems intriguing

yup....or if lets say Iowa State was going after a kid and that kid commits elsewhere well than maybe they go after a guy that we are after

trickle down effects for sure

Yeah but nobody would go after the guys we are going after. We are only going after practice guys I'm told by experts here....

I have no idea. But I'm guessing WalMart's owners give far more to Arkansas than Target gives the U, which I'm guessing is $0 for NIL.

Thanks for making my point- much easier to recruit when you have 💰, conference and school that don’t care either.

Walton's probably do, Bud's name is on the arena.

Not sure how much Dayton's have given or give to the U, athletics or otherwise.
