2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

This is not true. You absolutely need role players and the hard part is keeping players whose role is to not start.
To repeat, nobody "needs" role players. Unless by role player yoy mean "better than the other team's guy."
No coach would ever willingly put a guy on his bench not capable of playing well enough to be a starter.

Nebraska got 2 transfer commits today.
PF Rienk Mast from Bradley
Big Wing Brice Williams from Charlotte

Is anybody goin' to Dinkytown?
The U of Minnnnnn-esota?
Any guard is all right
As long as I
Can forget Samuels eeeever played there.

Yonder comes the truck with the Enn-Eye-Ell
Players sending big stacks back home.
Tomorrow Ben'll prolly want Battle back,
But he'll be just as gone.

Is any anybody goin to Dinkytown...

Say by some stroke of luck, Ben lands Wrightsell and Pride.

Does he go after a 3 point shooting SF. Or do we think he’s happy with what he sees in the mixture of Fox/Ihnen/Betts/JOJ?

Bryant U? Just fire the staff
Just consistently boring takes. Top players from the portal last year came out of Utah Valley University (Aimiq), Wright State (Basile), Seattle University (Trammell), Morehead State (Broome), Missouri State (Mosley). Among countless others, do you add any actual substance or is it just "Nothing could possibly be good about this staff ever", and that's the end of the analysis?

In 2021-22 (season Bryant made the tournament). Pride had a game where he put up 44 points and had 12 boards.

Also had multiple 23, 24 and 25 point games. Looks like he’s put up good numbers this past season too

Taurus Samuels had a great game against Stanford in 2021/2022. Let's not play that game again.

In that situation, I'd say no. He'll probably try to find a backup/spot playing big and that's all. He'll want to have room for Carrington, Christie, and Betts to play. He'll let the forward situation work itself out.

The forward situation is solid.

We supply the pro

gram with plenty of money from tickets, parking, gear, food and drink... It is NOT our job to pay the players as well
Well as long as fans for other programs are contributing to their teams at a higher rate...whether or not it is our job is a moot point.

Yes, but those "role" players were starters. I doubt coaches recruit guys thinking they would never be part of the top 8-9 man rotation. "Hey, this guy will be a good practice player but in 4 years will never avg more than 1 min/gm". If that is the case, why recruit the guy in the first place? I would assume a coach recruits players aiming for those 8-9 top spots. Of course young guys (usually) need a season or 2 to develop. I suppose there are always those situations/seasons where it is nice to pick up a Matz Stockman or 2 to fill a back up immediate need for one season. I don't envy the job the coaching staff has to juggle this spring. Good luck Ben.
At a minimum you need enough good players to practice. The better the players are whom the starters have to play against, the faster they will develop period. And you don't want players jumping in who are injured etc. We need depth to run practices. We need depth to give injured players breaks. We need depth so our starter don't need to play over 32 minutes a game and be worn down by the long season. Depth is a wonderful thing for a coach. If your program is not at the place where super talented players will come, you take the best you can get. If I have one beef with Johnson it's his not using all 13 of his scholarships for scholarship level players (not walk-ons).
