All Things Minnesota Wild 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

I do agree they need to clean up offsides, but they got it right in this case. The Makai goal in the playoffs last year was a joke and should have been deemed offsides.

Up late watching the San Jose game tonight. Seems like a good thing for them that their first game without Kaprizov is against a cellar dweller. Better to start making a adjustments that way.

And there is is.
3-4 weeks is an interesting prognosis, at least for the NHL.

Maybe it's just a VGK thing but we generally only get either "day-to-day" (which could mean anywhere from 1-4 weeks), or the player is "week-to-week" (which generally means 2-4 months). Can't say for VGK I've ever seen an absence due to injury nailed down to an estimate of a few weeks.

Not good for the Wild, losing KK; Colorado is coming on strong, as expected, but fortunately for the Wild, Winnipeg has been sliding for weeks. Wild will make the playoffs, but more than likely playing on the road to open the postseason?

Hockey don’t hit guys in the head.

Also hockey, if you want to square off and fight we as refs are just gonna sit there and watch.

Not a good loss. This teams gonna be in a pickle if the goalies start giving up 3 a night vs the last 4 weeks where they were giving up 1 a night.

Let's not panic after game two of back-to-back away games on the west coast.

Ah the ebbs and flows of goaltending in the NHL. For 3 weeks the wild didn’t give up anything. Now they are struggling to stop anything.

Yep. 10-0-3 in their last 13 games. Odd to be upset about that.
The problem is it was Phoenix and they are terrible. Wild have now lost two straight games against Phoenix.

Plus the game tonight ain’t going that well. All streaks start with the first game.

The Wild could very well be facing the same exact question as the VGK when they hit the playoffs; do you start your young, talent, up-and-coming Goalie who has never played in the postseason? Or do you start the old reliable aging vet who could definitely get hot, but could lay numerous eggs as well.

For the Wild, it's MAF (a legend, HOF'er) or the youngster Gustavsson, who looks pretty good, but has ZERO playoff experience.

For VGK, it's rookie Logan Thompson (assuming he's back by the playoffs), who was a Pacific Division All-Star, or recent pickup Jonathan Quick (also a future HOFer like MAF), who has not been great for the Kings the last couple years but is 4-0 since being pressed into duty since being picked up at the trade deadline a couple weeks ago.

VGK are on their 6th goalie this season, and have started 5 goalies in net in the last 15-16 games. Sounds like at least 2 of the VGK goalies that are injured, including Thompson, now could be back finally within a week or so.

Do Wild fans want to see MAF in the playoffs, or Gustavsson?

You want one of them to catch lightening in the bottle. There is no way the wild thought the Gus Bus would be this year. They needed a goalie after Talbot wanted out and Gus is who they could afford. I am honestly more worried about Klingberg and Addison playing D than I am the goalie situation.

We will for sure see both. They have both been lights out good for the last month- these last two games notwithstanding. Unless there is a clear edge when the playoffs begin, I would bet 70/30 on game 1 MAF.

I think it’s also obvious that Kaprizov being out has lit a fire under the team’s offense. That’s good. Defense has correspondingly suffered, however. I do like higher percentage conversion of scoring chances, though.

Been switched back and forth from this game and the WBC. Every time I switch back to the Wild game they have another goal.

Beating up on a helpless Blues team that had a fire sale at the deadline. Shame, shame, shame....

Michael Russo

Bruins roll by Wild 5-2 on Saturday. was 3-2 Bruins early in the 3rd, but Bruins went up 4-2 then added an empty-net goal late in the game. Boston out-shot MN 38-31.

JV vs varsity with the wild not having Khrill.
They were also missing other key players, besides one of the best players in the league (Kaprizov):

- Foligno
- Brodin
- Middleton
- Duhaime
- Nyquist (obviously a different situation from the others)

I heard on KFAN some or all but Nyquist could be back tomorrow (Sunday).

Matt Boldy recorded his second career hat trick and the Minnesota Wild rebounded to beat Washington 5-3 on Sunday.

Minnesota, which had its 14-game point-streak end Saturday against Boston, is within one point of Dallas for the Central Division lead and two points up on Colorado for second with a dozen games to play.

Ryan Reaves and Brandon Duhaime also scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves for Minnesota, improving to 7-0-0 in his last seven starts..

Did not expect such a great backhand from Duhaime. Apparently neither did the Caps goalie.

great win - but if I'm being honest, there "might" have been a couple of penalties down the stretch - but the refs kept the whistles in their pockets and let the players decide things.

plus NJ had a good shot nail the crossbar. call it puck luck if you want.
Gustavsson played out of his mind. Fantastic game to watch. Boldy is finally getting rewarded - he has been playing at a very high level for two months now, but only recently started logging some stats in line with that level of play. The addition of Johansson has been the partner he needed, since losing his pal Fiala.
