BREAKING!!!! Dennis Evans ask for release….

Gopher Basketball, just wait till you see what happens next!

It’s all over now baby blue…

And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken

And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died

And they were singing bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, "This'll be the day that I die"
This will be the day that I die

What a crock. There's a difference between getting playing time as a freshman and playing for a historically bad team that has no idea what it's doing. This has nothing to do with NIL.
It may have something to do with NIL, but it's not like he didn't turn down more NIL $ to begin with.

It’s time for a cbj state of the program news conference. I demand answers

Who enters the portal now? My guess is that 2 contributors leave as well. Who knows on Christie? He also has a road to playing time here with our dearth of guards, but he has other options to play AND win.

My darling wife and I were discussing this very thing a few weeks ago and we're surprised he hadn't opened up his recruiting. Johnson will have to do this the hard way and prove he can make winners out of some of these kids before a big talent like Evans would consider playing for us. I don't blame him. If he's potentially a one and done talent I'd think you'd have to press hard too make the Gophers attractive.

Unless they actually are making NIL $, I'm not sure why Garcia and Battle wouldn't just go make whatever they can playing pro ball. Coming back here to go 2-18 can't be that appealing. Payne will have transfer offers. Henley might too, or just want to go play with Evans if there's a spot.

I think I'm going to cry. I think I'm already crying, in fact.

This is what I've been fearing but not wanting to talk about out loud. Beside its specific impact, this could have an effect on other recruits as well as guys currently on the roster. Concerns about transfers out are now higher.

Dennis is a bright kid, which is much of his appeal. He has two eyes and a brain. It doesn't take a weatherman to see which way the wind blows. Maybe he knows or has heard of others on the team who are planning to transfer; hopefully not. He presumably signed on because of last year's team seeming to be well coached but just outmanned. He sees the same things we've seen this year and has doubtless been asking the same questions as we have on here.

Crazily, this probably puts Coyle in the mindset of Ben needing MORE time because of this setback. That's the position he's been in with the constant roster turnover on the women's team: every year there has been a year zero of sorts. He must continue to hope that, once the women's program finds stability, they'll get their legs under them, but the stability never comes. I personally think that this almost guarantees Johnson a fourth year.

Trying to be forward looking, the Gophers need to be looking locally for overlooked and underrated talent. Even if they don't think they need a center because they already have Payne, the overall concern is that, if things start to crater, we won't end up with enough D1-caliber players on the roster to field a team next year. Is there something lower than "year zero?"

Johnson may come to rue the days he underplayed/underutilized TT.

Outside of Mr Norway pretty quiet from the CBJ backers. Turns out the ones who said from the jump he was a pathetic hire and will be awful were right.

The team improves using his scholly on a super quick 45% 3 point shooter. We are just too tall and long to compete.

Coyle may have his flaws, but surely he knows a train wreck when he sees one. "More time" isn't going to solve anything. Even if this is partially an NIL issue, it's not going to get better on its own. No one cares about this program. No NIL funding is coming without a new coach. "Giving it more time" is only going to make the hole deeper for the next coach.

This hurts far more for what it says about Ben and the program than the actual player. I was already resigned to Dennis being underwhelming next year, as freshman big men usually are (perhaps a similar year to Payne this year) and then leaving via the portal or draft.

This is catostrophic and I wasnt even that high on Evans(at least immediate wise) and thought it was goofy expecting to have him and Payne share time for years. That said this is BAD.

Was always on the "you gotta give Ben 3 years train" but I think its offically time to go the Ol Yeller route. Put him outta his misery.

He also seems proud, arrogant and stubborn. This might be as much a test of his character than of his judgment.

Exactly my thinking.
