All Things Isaac Asuma Recruitment Thread (Class of 2024, Minnesota's Top In-State Target)

You and I know the same haunts. See you at Bimbo's sometime.
Split some wings.

I’m really excited about him, as he seems like a natural leader and others first person.

Imagine 3-4 years from now - it could be special - just keep stacking these classes/high level recruits on top of each other.
Hopefully the school has a new well. Unlike Buhl that has the best water in the State, Cherry dug their well right into a sulfur pit. It was just awful. Nearly undrinkable.

I do take it into consideration, I'm just saying that their box scores would not convert a skeptic. JOJ has improved. The rest of them have not.

Henley was worse in January than he was in December. We'll see how he does in February.
Carrington was way better in December than he was in January.
Payne is about the same (slightly worse) in January than December.
JOJ has been better.

I intentionally did not look at November because the competition was weaker.

This isn't a rip on them, I'm just pointing out that the idea that someone could look at the box score of our freshman and that would bring hope is false. They haven't been very good. Again, I understand they're freshman and there is potential, but that isn't showing up in the box score.
I agree with all of these except for Henley, who I believe was pretty awful in December but has reduced his turnovers, boarded better, passed much better ( the floor was low), everything except his shooting.

I appreciate your posts. Did you notice the young players making FT's the other night? Another step forward!

Could that be coaching?
Could be. If it was, it should have been done 2 months ago when it was obvious he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn at the FT line. But then CBJ said he was waiting until Christmas to address the FT shooting. Which apparently didn’t work, as they are still 352 of 352 teams in the country in FT%.

Glad to see Paynes performance at the line- he was quicker to shoot and maybe was thinking about it less.

Could that be coaching?
It’s coaching in the same way a child’s macaroni plate is art. My third grade coach got us to not do that stuff too. So it’s likely coaching but I wouldn’t call it a feather in a cap.

Maybe. But this is why we hired Ben. Let's see how his recruiting goes in this class. Last class he signed Christie, who had a Michigan State offer...and Evans, who could have gone anywhere he wanted.
How many MN kids did Ben land in his 2023 class, isn’t that why we hired Ben? I don’t care where we find recruits, get the best we can, but wasn’t he brought in to lock down the state?

I agree, unfortunately you still need a person at the top who shows an ability to coach those he brings in. To date that ability has not been evident.

Besides Chatman, he got better players than what was here. I think with how Chatman is playing, there’s a fair argument about him and Christie being closer than further apart.

Either way you and the others will probably rip Ben when Asuma commits saying he’s not good or ranked highly enough, but he’s probably the best MN ‘24.

Why next year?. Is he all of a sudden going to figure out how to coach? At this point in time they are not all that competitive.
The freshman will be a year older and wiser.
We’ll be healthier and three new highly regarded players join the band, excluding any new transfers

Bet Your Bottom Dollar That Tomorrow There'll Be Sun
Just Thinking About Tomorrow
Clears Away The Cobwebs And The Sorrow 'Til There's None
When I'm Stuck With A Day That's Gray And Lonely
I Stick Out My Chin And Grin And Say

You’d bet that we’d have the same amount of injuries and truly believe this is common for most teams?
While it is hard to believe the injury bug could continue.

Past performance is the best indicator of future success.

So, weather guy is probably correct with his forecast.

One major injury to Evans/Christie/Battle/Garcia next year would be more meaningful than the injuries to Fox/Ihnen and Carrington this year combined. Garcia missing games is significant, but not if you lose by 35. The Indiana game is the only one he's missed so far where he might have changed the outcome. If we were totally healthy, we'd have 1-2 more wins out of the @Wisconsin/Nebraska/Indiana/@Michigan bucket. That's it. The injury excuse is overblown this year.

The same amount is highly unlikely. This year is abnormal with two guys with full year injuries plus what we’ve had. Our in season follows a pretty normal path.

Most likely true, but we don’t know for sure. I’d say 100% on Battle and Garcia.

Not using it as an excuse. Just think we’ve had more than average teams this year.
