Would it be fun to divide the B1G into a 1st and 2nd division? You would play all of the teams in your division and the two other teams that you have gone longest without playing. At the end of the season top two 1st division teams play the championship 8th place team of 1st division relegated to 2nd division and 1st place team in 2nd division promoted. Also 6th and 7th place of 1st division have to play 2nd and 3rd place of 2nd division championship weekend in order to try to keep their spot on the 1st division.

No!!!!

I’m very open to better ideas. This is the best one I’ve thought of so far. Finishing 4-5 in 11th place out of 16 doesn’t excite me personally.
There aren’t better ideas. The idea is what they are going to do. If you dont like it then win more games so you can be excited.

Would finishing 4-5 and in 3rd place excite you? Or would taking 2nd in the lower division make you feel good?

The idea is bad. I’m sorry.

Yes finishing 2nd in the lower division would get me excited to have the chance to move up to the upper division. That’s exactly my point.

Damn, harsh reception. Sounds sorta fun on paper, especially if you're resigned to finishing behind Ohio State and Michigan in perpetuity, gives you something to play for, but probably a bit gimmicky for college football. My biggest concern would be loss of yearly rivalry games.

We’d be playing for The Jug every year and would have to stipulate that The Axe game would be played every year even when Wisconsin sits in the lower division for the next 10 years.

What’s the down side? If everyone is one big sixteen team league, it’s a lot of teams with nothing at stake. It could add a little drama.
Nothing soccer related should be adopted by CFB. It has a 100% chance of being beyond stupid!

It’s too late. Each team already has 11 players on the field. CFB has been infected by soccer. 😂😂😂
And that's definitely where any similarities should end. My biggest fear is that the ludicrous and unsportsmanlike fake injuries will infect American football! It's embarrassing to even consider that part of competition!

Brilliant idea and have been thinking the same thing.

My guess is people will automatically say no without providing any reason. They are afraid of change, but change is coming as the league expands. It will be a slow road, but I bet we get there in ~20 years.

I dont like idea, but how would you determine the divisions first year? You gonna tell a team that thinks they are gonna be pretty good that because they finished 7-5 last year that you have to be in second division? Second division means you have no chance to win the big ten. Now you go 12-0 and have beaten Michigan lets say from other division, but your gonna watch Michigan play Ohio State in championship game?

Primary downside is you would have little chance of advancing as all the best recruits would go to teams in first division of Big Ten and other conferences. You just relegated all of the 2nd division teams to mid-majors.

So much for @ReplacementGopher's concern, lol.

How is that different than now, with next recruits going to OSU, Alabama, etc? NIL, playing time opportunities, and connections with coaches, etc. would offset this like they do now.

Good point.
In year zero, announce bottom half of East and west will comprise tier 2 in year 1. That would make that year zero pretty damned exciting.

And soccer took the 11 players from cricket.

Very different. Yes, OSU, MI and PSU have advantages, but they aren't in a whole different division. We have a chance, every year, to go to the Big Ten championship and even the playoffs. In a 2nd division that is lost, and a recruit would not see a reasonable chance at in the near future.

This is not the English premier league.
Pod-scheduling is the way to go.
