Dinkytown Athletes NIL collective has less than a day left in their (2) 50k matching campaigns. If you have even considered becoming a Dinkytown Athletes member or supporting them, it is quite literally the best time to do so!

Here are a few reasons to become a Dinkytown Athletes member:
- Cool perks like signed balls, invites to exclusive events with players, and exclusive content like interviews with the players.
- Helps get top talent to Dinkytown and avoids the "Bucky Irving effect" where great future players transfer somewhere like Oregon because they offered him 300k...
- Puts Minnesota on the map!

So no affiliation with Dinkytown but out here repeatedly pumping us for donations. OK.

I don't come out here to get solicited for $$. He has two threads going for the same thing.
He's an intern for them. I don't think he ever said he wasn't affiliated. I, like you, do wish DTA would have a little more transparency but I think he's just a college kid trying to work on his sales skills and pay some bills.

I'm not understanding the angst. It's not like he started a go fund me for his dog. It's for something to help your favorite team's athletes and has been supported by PJ.

I agree 1 thread was probably enough. This site has mods and of they thought he or DTA wasn't legit or spamming the board, they'd clean it up.

The people complaining about DTA promotions are the same people who will complain in a few months when we have a weak transfer/recruiting class. NIL is the way cfb works now whether you like it or not. It is not hard to ignore a forum post you don't want to read.

But apparently you're here to complain about every DTA thread. If you don't want to support DTA, and what's necessary for recruiting in today's world, then ignore the thread and move on. No one is forcing you to.

I know you'll be one of the first to complain when you don't like the recruiting class, which you do every year.

Not sure how much goes to athletes, but just ordered a BSF jersey!

Again just expressing my opinion about being solicited out here. Supportive for what's needed to recruit in the new reality. Love to see the contracts and guaranteed $$ that the athletes are getting from DTA. You must have me confused as I have been mostly impressed with Fleck's recruiting and have posted that numerous times here.

Does DTA help out the hockey players too? Just curious how these work.

The hockey thing is odd. I have seen no NIL talk for the men’s or women’s team. No idea why. Collective decision? Maybe there is a hockey specific one or a major donor handling all that?

You have an option to direct. I went heavy (all) football, as competitive need greatest there. As I have witnessed (was at Mariucci for Friday night’s beat down vs Bucky), Coach M not hurting for talent 😊 👍

Many men's players already drafted and just waiting on their contracts and bonuses in NHL. I agree that I haven't seen anything for hockey.

That was my thinking as well. The MN Hockey Teams NIL slogan is something like the Alabama of Football. "Come here and you'll more than likely get drafted and go pro"

Still doesn't mean some other school (like a Michigan or BC) won't start to dole out money to hockey recruits and then it's game on.

Hopefully one year, PJ can find someone like a Peyton (a 5⭐️) to come to us without all of this NIL influence, you know because this 5⭐️ player believes in the RTB culture so much.

Doubt it, but one can dream

I don't have any problem with this kid posting on here trying to do his job, so don't take it that way but it does highlight what the smart people said NIL would turn into when this was first talked about.

The name and "intention" of NIL was the ability to compensate college athletes for financial benefits they were providing their schools but they weren't being paid for. Debatable, but a noble idea if nothing else.

Yet here we are, being hit up to donate to a private fund so we will be able to pay more for recruits than the other schools fans will. And many of you are right, it is the way the game is being played now, but that doesn't make it any less stupid.

I used to be for the idea of a return to true college athletics, but that is obviously isn't going to happen. Now I am looking forward to D1 college sports just becoming a true minor league of the professional sports. I never liked pro football as much as college, but at least the Vikings don't ask me to contribute to a fund to help buy the players.

Good comments. I contributed modestly to a couple new NIL funds this year but who knows how long I'll be motived to do that in the future. It will be interesting to see if the NIL interest eventually dries up or if it just spools up and becomes part of the college sports fabric as younger fans eventually replace older fans. I hope Power 5 football doesn't just turn into a worse less organized and less fair version of the NFL.

Regarding the bolded, I attended a Vikings game with my daughter and friend a couple weeks ago. It cost me the price of my first house mortgage when it was said and done. The NFL is getting their money one way or another.

Local gov’ts getting on board…

I don't think OTLCA is government. It's an association.
