Official 2023 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

So what? That game impacts our overall record. Who is talking about next season's "Big Ten West"finish?
The poster that started the conversation and the guy who responded him bolded it
We aren't loaded but we could be the dark horse favorites in the West. Be nice for us if our tight end came back. Curious why Evans didn't get some carries the last two weeks? Did he play 4 games or one? I think they got some O-line guys in the wings? Surprise pass rusher would be a welcome sight.

Have you seen our schedule?!? 6-6 is in play...
The people I was responding to

We have Guedet, Boe, Shaw and Lewis to battle for the open few spots on the line. That's without factoring in Tyler Cooper, Jackson Ruschmeyer or any of the other young guys - or potential portal pieces.
Don't forget about Lawrence, as well. BIG boy

Same recruiting group as Ersery and Lewis.

Yeah it seems like he has been having issues getting his weight down and conditioning up? I saw him in a jersey and sweats a number of times this season. I know there were also some high hopes for Cameron James from Chicago.

Obviously losing JMS will sting, but overall on the line, we aren't in a spot where we don't have guys without some experience and time in the program.

Almost certain Nubin is gone to the draft.
I watch the unfolding of the NFL draft more closely than I watch the NFL season and I've noticed Nubin's mention on a couple of draft-related sites. He's currently in Pro Football Focus' Top 100 (as is Schmitz). There are a lot of amateur sites with pre-draft content and no underclassmen have declared yet so who knows how things may shuffle around, but Pro Football Focus is actually legit (or at least in the upper-tier of these sites).

Gage Keys: 2 solo tackles 3 asst tackles total 5 No sacks

It is tough to lose guys you put time and money into unless they need to step down a level to get on the field. Some will be a beast at the right level.

Steven Ortiz, Jr. just entered the portal. Great kid, I think. Great family, too, I've heard. Might have had trouble building up in weight room? We've got some good young talent waiting to play at safety and wouldn't be surprised if we "portalled" in an upperclassman, too.

Updated with Ortiz and James being added to the transfer out group.

Lewis came in for Ersery at LT, and did a fine job in spot duty.

Maybe they will try him at LG?

Guedet has been around the program a lonnng time. I just feel guys like that, there's a reason they don't crack the lineup. But that's also a guess.
He has been injured a lot.

Hadn't heard about Cameron James leaving. Don't remember him getting much time--if any. Some of the younger OL guys must be pushing. Wish Cameron well in his next spot. He should play somewhere--you can't teach size.

Two things here... (1) bumping the thread up (2) totally a question for someone who is close to the program who might know the answer...again it is a question without any insight or agenda or rumor intent...
Brick Haley is our first year DL coach. He is an experienced veteran coach. Is he old school in style? Does he yell too much for our DL? Is he really good at his job? 2 of our 5 transfers are DL. Any correlation or all about other reasons for the transfers?

I think it is mostly due to having a log jam of young defensive lineman because that position has been recruited heavily the last few classes. Players are transferring out because they are buried and want to play.

So far it looks like we have 17 leaving, and currently have 17 committed including Allen.

What an oddly specific question

But it's good to get guys that other teams put time and money into. The portal is part of the game. You need to bring in overall upgrades over what you lose.

How many portal guys last year ended up staying?

Dixon transfer kind of feels like the MJ Anderson transfer from last year. Will be interesting to see where he ends up but bummer that he is leaving.

Removed Markus Allen. Guessing we will get some commitments here in the near future, looks like a decent number of offers have gone out.

I question whether Dixon was an off-the-ball safety at all. He seemed like a S/LB hybrid, but i'm not 100% sold that he was going to be a starter at the S opposite Nubin next year. I feel like he was run-support only and didn't have the range to play in a 2-deep look. He certainly had a role next season, but i don't think it's a lock that he would have started at S.
