To those calling to fire PJ, who would you hire in his place?

How many more years would PJ need to lose to Iowa before changing the minds of some of the fans here? Never?

I think my limit is two more years. I've already checked out somewhat after this last loss, and I've been a huge supporter since the day PJ was hired.
He probably has to show he has another up cycle in him by 2024

I think most would agree with that.
But if we are mediocre or worse the next two years and 2025 looks more like a rebuild than a make a run it might be time.

I didn't bring the guy up like that and I explained it clearly.
Lol okay

You brought up two guys you thought were good coaches as examples of how we could find a guy and were disappointed to learn that one of the guys has the same resume as Pj only slightly worse

Then claimed you can’t compare them. It’s fine if you can’t see the ridiculousness of that

If/when Fleck is done here, the guy 4 miles down the road might be the hire.

I had never even considered Caruso. He did turn around St. Thomas, but that program was a sleeping giant when he took over. Maybe. On the other hand, one could argue that Lance Leipold had even more advantages at Whitewater, yet he's been an outstanding coach at all his stops. I suppose a good coach is a good coach.

The most impressive thing Caruso has done is set the foundation to make macalester competitive

Leipold
Klieman
Caruso
Jamey Chadwell at Coastal Carolina

A good coach is a good coach.

If I was the AD I’d be working those back-channels like a crazy man, getting a long list of names together. Many have already been mentioned.

Leipold is 45-47 in FBS. I think he needs a few more seasons to see if he is the real deal.

It’s pretty funny. Because the resume you’d look for to replace a guy like fleck…is you’d want to find someone that had similar success to flecks at WMU or similar levels to his success at MN.

It's all contextual, don't you think? The losses last year and this year hurt especially bad because they made a HUGE difference in the West standings and general perceptions of the team. Plus, both games were right there for the taking. Frustrating as heck for me, but not fireable -- even if it keeps happening.

I mean, if they win 10 or 11 games the next two years but lose in a similar fashion to Iowa both seasons, it'll sting, but don't you think all thoughts of dismissing PJ go bye bye?

PJ just said on his TV show that he would do everything in the Iowa game again exactly like he did it Saturday? What? His lack of intellect and self-awareness is astounding.

He literally has said in the past he is trying to build a program like Iowa and Wisconsin.
Well our offense looks Iowa as hell.

If they win 11 next year he’ll be gone for a different reason

Again, no.

I brought up Campbell for no other reason of that he was hired out of the MAC for a P5 job recent-ish.

And again, I was not proposing that we replace Fleck with another MAC coach. I was merely stating that our last two hires have been from the MAC, and they've both been upgrades over the guy they replaced. Those are simply two objective observations.

Got it. You suggested we hire a Mac coach because it would likely be an upgrade. Specially named two hot names within the last two years in the same post but the names you mentioned had nothing to do with the statement.

Logical.
Glad you cleared that up.

Lol

I never did, and have been crystal clear about that for multiple posts.

You're purposefully giving yourself something to attack.
For sure I am purposely doing that
That above statement and list of Mac coaches in no way implies they would be good candidates.

Again
Logical
Glad we cleared it up

I know. Thanks for clearing it up.
You mentioning hiring Mac coaches and bringing up specific names had nothing to do with the post you were making

Yeah you never said that .... but actually you said that, because I say so. See?

Maybe you are being genuine. If so, thank you and let's move on.

It's honestly hard for me to tell your tone, because you are often very sarcastic and almost never use emojis to try to communicate tone.

We landed Kill and Fleck, in a row, right?
You said this
Matt Campbell and Lance Leipold from the same conference.

Then you said this.

That formula would say: hire the best from the MAC. Try, try again.
then you said this

When you said them all together I assumed you were saying the things together. I didn’t realize that the middle sentence was unrelated to the beginning and end.

Again. Thanks for clearing that up.

I really don't think he is going anywhere. Much wasted energy on this subject unless his staff actually reads some of these posts.

In one of these threads, @GopherWeatherGuy mentioned that PJ's buyout for this year is $10M and next year is $7M.

That's the reason, far more than anything.

Minnesota (and Minnesotans) are wayyyyyy too cheap to pay that kind of dough, no matter how south 2023 goes.

Has nothing to do with merit.
