All Things 2022-2023 Minnesota Twins Off-Season Thread

But Pagan has such great "stuff."

In all seriousness I don't understand GM's...if Pagan was let go another team would goggle him up fast. Nobody pays attention to his BEYOND alarming numbers over the past 2.5 years and just sees that his "stuff" is good.

That’s because most big these guys now are math nerds and not baseball men

I said this earlier in the thread and I’ll say it again - if Pagan is back, just burn the whole thing down. At that point it would be blatantly clear the front office knows less about constructing a baseball team than a 15 year old cashier at McDonalds.
Depends on what they sign him for and what else they do in the bullpen. I would hope the expectation for him is the back end of the bullpen but I prefer that be younger guys that could potentially break out.

On the Pagan thing - Doogie responded to that tweet with a clarification.

he said no deal is close. The Twins are only interested in a very team-friendly deal for 2023 with a team option for 2024.

so, according to Doogie, the Twins are talking to Pagan, but it's more like "well, you can come back, but only at a salary we like."

looking at the bullpen, you have Duran, Lopez, Jax, Thielbar for sure. after that, Alcala if he's healthy, maybe Moran as a 2nd lefty, and after that, who knows? Megill, Winder (if he's not in the rotation), and don't forget they're still paying Randy Dobnak. So, at the right price, Pagan could be a 6th-inning type of guy.

They need to forget about Pagan entirely and sign someone who is elite.

In my mind there is no right price for someone who has historically bad relief stats over the past couple of seasons. He could accept 40k a year and that is too much.

For all the Pagan hate on here the fact they stuck with him all year meant they were 100% going to offer him a contract or arbitration. Otherwise they would have cut bait with him during the season when they were brining up and sending guys down every other day.

I actually don't think they will. He will get $4-5 million in arbitration which is a joke as we he will get nothing near that as a free agent.

It seems they are trying to get him to take a team friendly deal (say $1 million) with a team option for 2024. In theory, I get it. Low risk gamble on a guy with "good stuff". But for his specific case, I just want him gone.

These guys don’t cut bait on any potential asset. Remember they could have simply cut Sano when he was set to return form injury. Instead they made roster moves to add him to the active roster only for him to last a week before being reinjured, maybe.

apparently Buxton has been getting into some Twitter fights with "fans."

In a Twitter thread about the announcement of the new uniforms, people were tweeting things like "Buxton is going to wear half of a uniform, because he only plays half the time" and similar comments.

so Buxton started responding and getting into a back-and-forth with some of the critics.

the Twins' public image right now has to be the lowest since the "contraction" fiasco.

ironically, I just saw that Buxton received some type of award or recognition from a Veterans' organization for his charitable work to support veterans' groups. ---Looked it up. It was the Bob Feller "Medal of Valor" award, named for the Hall of Fame pitcher who served during WWII.

Half a uni is funny

To give people perspective, Michael Fulmer is listed as having the 6th highest WAR the past two season combined for current free agent relief pitchers.. He's also one of the youngest of the top free agents.

On a side note, I did not know Jose Abreu is 36 years old.

Lot needs to adopt a winter ball team in PR or he’ll be completely nutty by spring training
I love baseball and the other Minnesota sports teams are not doing great outside the Vikings. Plus this weather is crappy, snow before thanksgiving makes for a long winter.

Lemme know who you adopt and why.

Maybe some OL time greats are still playing!

Not sure I like the M caps. I don’t mind the rest.

Now win a playoff game or heaven forbid a playoff series.

The M looks too much like Miami but I love the jerseys. Much better than the current ones. The grey ones are sweeeeet.

In general, fans tend to dislike new jerseys and then get used to them. I find these neutral. Winning cures all.

On the uniforms - I'm pleasantly surprised. they kept the look simple.
I like the new home whites, and the alternate "Twin Cities" look is fun.

for the road uniforms, I prefer the gray pinstripes to the solid blue top.

the M logo - I read an explainer that someone posted. the "Star" above the M is modeled after the shape of the arches on the Stone Arch Bridge, and also suggests a stylized baseball diamond shape.
The Home uniforms have a shoulder patch with the outline of the state of MN and the "star" marking the Twin Cities - a tie-in to "the North Star State."

also - Doogie was interviewing Buxton at the event. asked about Correa, Buxton praised his leadership. he said he talks to Correa every week. Buxton then said "we want him here and he wants to be here. Now, it's just up to the club to make that happen."
