If we happen to win out is there any chance for us to still win? I assume Illinois loses next week. We would just need Purdue to lose 1 of their next 2??? I could be wrong

You are correct. If we win out, Purdue needs to drop either NW or Indiana, if they win out we end tied with them having the tie breaker

Say Purdue wins out still, what 3 way tie scenarios are there? Wondering if I should be rooting for anything in particular. Indiana did somehow beat Illinois week 1. Based on the recent play I just don’t see Indiana or Northwestern giving us high hopes vs Purdue head to head. Hope I’m wrong.

No 3-way tie situations that would benefit the Gophers, if that's what you're looking for. Purdue winning out gives them a 6-3 conference record. Only one of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota can end with a 6-3 record since they all have yet to play one another and have 3 losses already. The only possible 3-way tie with Minnesota involved would be with Purdue and Illinois, who we're 0-2 against.

Purdue is very capable of choking, but that homecoming loss might hurt really bad at the end of the season.

If we win out and Purdue wins out they win the west due to our head to head loss against them. Sucks cus everything went wrong for us in that game. Feel like we would beat them today. But who knows. They have improved significantly

Purdue beating Illinois certainly made it all wide open again in the West. Feels like everyone is fighting for the right to be the team that gets destroyed by Ohio St

NW did not get destroyed by them and we just destroyed NW…..In Mo We Trust

It's all coming together. We probably just need help with Purdue, possibly losing at Indiana. That should help some that the game is in Bloomington.

Piggies score so IO. up by 11...
Wisconsin looks worse than I've seen all year. It's like Paul Chryst decided to sneak into play calling duties. Special teams coordinator should likely be fired after this game as well.

We would be co-champs but PU would play in conf. championship game due to head to head

Mertz is just so bad. He is really the problem with the 22 badgers. Defense is getting much better but man he sucks.

If the Gophers can somehow get to the BTC game, the Rose Bowl or Orange Bowl should be in play for them.

Rose Bowl extremely doubtful...would have to pass up 2 of 3 BIG East teams in standings, assuming ether tOSU or MI in playoffs

Agreed- only way we'd get the Rose Bowl is if we won the B1G. Even in the wild situation of OSU and UM both making the playoff (I find it doubtful but have seen it predicted), I think Penn State gets it over us.

Is it correct to say that nobody controls their own destiny at this point?

Purdue wins out but loses the division if Iowa wins out.
Illinois wins out but loses the division if Purdue wins out.
Minnesota wins out but loses the division if Purdue wins out.
Iowa wins out but loses the division if Illinois wins out.

I don’t see a scenario where anyone can win out and clinch without help because a 3 way tiebreaker would still require the help of a 3rd team to win out.

That would require 2 big ten teams in the playoff.

and even then the rose bowl wouldn’t be in play (Penn state). we’d have a really outside shot of the orange/cotton. But the sec probably grabs that spot (Alabama, LSU, and TN will all get NY6 bids if OSU and UM both make the playoffs.)

So I guess I don’t see NY6 happening for the west champ at all.

Lump wisconsin with Nebraska and Northwestern. Outside looking in.

Illinois will get rolled by Michigan.

It's Iowa's to lose.

I believe this scenario would result in five teams all being 5-4.

Michigan over Illinois
Wisconsin over Nebraska
Minnesota over Iowa
Purdue over Northwestern
Illinois over Northwestern
Wisconsin over Minnesota
Indiana over Purdue
Iowa over Nebraska

That really defeats the point of the exercise if we assume future results though. Iowa also has a 70% chance of losing to us per ESPN. Maybe Iowa will pull the upset and control their own destiny next week. Maybe Illinois will and still won’t control anything.

I’d say Iowa and Purdue are both frontrunners at this point but both need help to win.
