the officiating may have made a difference if certain calls were made or not made.

But, even if every call went the way of the Gophers, Penn State still wins that game. The Refs didn't make the OL miss blocks. The refs didn't make the DB's line up on the wrong side of the field, or make someone miss coverage on the TE's.

on Dylan Wright - Fleck said after the game that "players have to do the right things on and off the field" when asked about Wright. That does not sound injury related. that sounds like a rule violation. I'll be surprised if he ever takes another snap for the Gophers.

disagree on the effect of calls. Every bad call in a game has a mental effect. GopherGrandpa has it right when he said that the Gopher D seemed to give up after the PI penalty in that horrible sequence of calla and non-calls. that was obvious. The refs mentally beat the team down probably more than PSU did, as the attitude became futility, the game wasn’t being played on a fair field. But that sequence was far from the first one affected by questionable reffing.

That stuff changes the entire complexion of games. If Mn score a TD instead of the INT when down 24-10, maybe Penn State tightens up or chokes a bit and makes a mistake that they did not make when under no threat. There were definitely points as late as the third quarter when one Gopher score entirely changes how that game plays out. Sure, PSU was the better team and in front of an amazing home crowd. But were they really that much better to the point of being unbeatable in that matchup? the answer is no until that big INT that should have been PI. thereafter, and only after, did the game become a mismatch.

Referees are best when they are invisible to all parties in any game. They were not last night.

They were very visible in the Penn State huddles during time-outs.

i think that’s actually pretty typical…there to make sure timing is set with Tv and all.

1st & 10, 2nd & 8, 3rd & 12 from PSU 14 yd line after great int & return. Fleck doesn’t let Athan throw the ball even 1 time? He thought 3 points would matter there. That’s just sheer stupidity. He thought running the ball on 2nd down would be a good idea there. That was just sheer stupidity. He waits to get down 17-3 and then is like welp, gotta throw the ball, and goes 90 yards for a TD in less than 2 minutes.

Imagine you come out with that mindset at the start of the game??? Imagine you go up 7-0???? Imagine you make PSU’s defense defense BOTH the pass and the run? Stop being so scared to lose PJ. The odds were overwhelming for you to lose anyway.

Yeah, pass to BSF would have been perfect. I hope the level of being conservative on the play calling peaked with this loss.

I think starting Athan Saturday at home against Rutgers is the perfect counter to his start at Penn State.

Well, it seems all the talent from Lakeville goes to Wisconsin, even if their dad played here. So there's part of the problem.
