All Things 2022-2023 Minnesota Twins Off-Season Thread

saw a tweet that Smeltzer is going to declare for free agency.

note from the Arizona Fall League:
Twins prospect Austin Martin is hitting .500 (12 for 24) with 2 2B, a HR and 3 BB in 31 plate appearances.

if he can start to hit, maybe he is a possibility as a stop-gap SS for next year (assuming Correa does not re-sign with the Twins.)

Well, Doogie says the Twins will definitely make Correa an offer. can't wait to hear that.

Correa is looking for a team with better-quality garbage cans.

Of course they will. They will "try and try". Will he pick their 3/$105 million offer, or the Yankees 8/$280 offer? Gee, I wonder.

Why didn't the Yankees offer that to Correa last year then?

I don’t understand the handling of Smeltzer. Despite not having the sexiest stuff, he frequently gave quality outings.

They would rather watch Pagan give up moonshots because he has "good stuff" "misses bats" and their analytics say he should be good. He's just getting unlucky. Smeltzer is the opposite of that.

Correa stole fewer bases this season than both Gary Sanchez and Miguel Sano.
can't remember where I read or heard this, but supposedly Correa doesn't try to steal bases because of the risk of injury - like getting jammed or broken fingers on a slide.

with the bigger bases next year, it will be interesting to see if teams re-think their philosophy on "small ball." I'd like to see more stolen bases, hit-and-run plays, etc.

So happy for Devin. - free yourself from this idiocy

Judges seismic contract was looming and George’s kids font spend money like a drunken sailor

Additionally, the #1 prospect in their system is SS Anthony Volpe who is projected to make the big club next season.

Correa may wind up an oriole. They are coming off a decent year, have a young team, have lots of money, and the GM is a former Astro higher up.

And with more teams making the playoffs now, going to the loaded east isn't as big of a deal anymore.

Plus starting in 2023 every team plays each other, so the Os only have to play 52 games against their AL East Rivals, instead of 76.

In theory, much easier schedule.

Twins have announced their Diamond Awards.

Carlos Correa won 5 of the 7 major awards: The Most Valuable Twin Award, the Bob Allison Award for leadership, the Award for defensive player of the year, the “Media Good Guy” Award and the Outstanding Community Service Award.

Jhoan Duran won Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

Nick Gordon won Most Improved Player.

There will be a televised version of the awards at a a later date on Bally's.
