Post Game Thread: Gophers Suffer Disappointing Homecoming Loss to Purdue

I know this isn't the end of the season, but "woe is me" and "here we go again" is not a choice that fans choose to feel. There is a reason for it.

No, coach Fleck, I cannot just let go of the past. I'm sick and fucking tired of every fucking year and every fucking Minnesota team giving us the same fucking results. I get the 2019 team/season and I love it, but was it just lightning in a bottle?

Change your best, coach. I've used your slogans and your style in my work place and I love all of it. But, it's 2:30 in the morning where I live and I stayed up for this year's version of Bowling Green. I don't see another victory on the schedule with as shitty as this game was managed. Maybe I can blame this on sanferd.

Hey, maybe 8 wins is an actual yearly goal and kick the hell out of the 5th place team in Conference USA. Anything more is icing on the cake.

I'm just drunk, old, and pissed off. No reason for anyone to reply. It's not that important.
LOL. PJ isn’t that bright we need to keep that in mind. He makes some real bad calls on game plans and in game coaching more often than he should.

Illinois, which plays its identity to a t, beat Wisconsin 34-10 today. Could be a rough game coming up … PJ’s making another risky, counter-intuitive 4th down call in the Gophers’ territory EARLY IN THE GAME is really weird. Gifted Purdue 3 points and might have changed the complexion of the game.

That was truly idiotic. I get trying to get the first down with Mo in there, or Seth Green back in those days, but Potts and the O-line had showed absolutely nothing at that point in the game.

Ummmm, I’m 2019, we ahhhhh, lost to both Iowa and Wisconsin. We had very conservative game plans in both of those games. In fact we chose to punt from WIs 35 on 4th and 2.

While I don’t think going for it on 4th down at your own 30 is the right call, it’s especially stupid to bring in personal that you haven’t used all season. Incredibly stupid. I would have they rather throw the ball there than run Kramer.

With our defense, you punt there every time in that situation.

I get it that he wanted a spark... but the play call was horrendous.
"Let's trick them by bringing in our wildcat package... they will never guess our QB will RUTM"

Really? Like really? wth....

I can’t believe he didn’t learn his lesson from the exact same scenario last year against Bowling Green.

Honestly, had we tied it up earlier before half time, we'd just curl up and hope the time runs out and end up losing again. This was a Coaching issue today. I am not saying we played a good game at all, but you can not tell me that we played to win after tying it. I have no idea what we were playing to do after we tied it. It's not like we were leading? Yet we went into "Let's run the time out" and hope our defense holds up mode.

I’m not defending the call here, it was stupid to go for it, but the officials did miss an offsides call on Purdue there too. One of their DL jumped early.

Very disappointing loss! One thing I am glad to see is, Fleck has risen our expectations as w
Fans since we have been the best we ever have in 40 plus years! People before the season were sayin 7-5 and 8-4. I think we will win 10 games this year. Our defense is legit and I think our Offense just had a bad game and it burned us.

Let’s keep rising!

That was odd. We were even purposely running the clock down for whatever reason.

You come out with an entirely different game plan than what helped you dominate the first 4 games, it’s no surprise you lose. Fucking stupid.
100 percent this. Awful game plan and a little lousy QB play, and game turned into a giant suddenly boring dudd. Mo is good but the drop off in play should not have been that significant. They were flat entering the stadium. Lines were terrible to get in and we arrived at 10:10 am. Tge staff scanning tickets and checking people in could not have been behaving any slower and disinterested in helping people.

No matter how good our defense is, if the other team has a potent offense, if we keep taking our foot off the peddle, they will chip away and eventually pass us up. I really don't think we will be able to keep up with Illinois if we don't change our coaching philosophy.

What Purdue did this year looked a lot like what Illinois, Iowa, Bowling Green etc. did last year. Shoot the gaps hard on the D line and/or run blitz to be disruptive, knowing Tanner has limited ability to make them pay. Mo has the ability to make an overaggressive defense pay, but the other RBs and Tanner do not. Get used to it.

This, absolutely ridiculous decision by coach Fleck to go for it in that situation. Gifted Purdue points, and horrible decision that set tone of negativity for game. Arrogance and a hero complex wrapped up in one call going fir it at your own 29.

Agree. Plus Kramer should of handed it off

This was PJ showing us he is exactly who his critics think he is. What an awful performance.

This type of play should be sent to Big 10 office. This type of offsides play is missed by this head official and his crew every season, not just against Gophers. That is not a good Big 10 crew, not reason Gophers lost, but that crew is disliked by a lot of fan bases.

Smith, Walley and Joyner getting knocked up insult to injury.

Here’s the play watch the DT.

Now that I’m more emotionally stable…

We played without our best player.

We had some fluky, awfully timed mistakes (the end zone pick, the missed FG, a couple dropped would be picks).

Purdue is probably better than advertised (especially their D), plus Spoilermaker game.

We didn’t lose by that much.

Iowa and Wisconsin also lost.

Defense was strong for much of the game.

In sum: we played like garbage for the first time this season and lost a close game to a conference foe. We play that game again with Mo, and I think the result flips. The B1G west is still wide open and we have a chance to win it.

They played like they were as good as all the positive press they'd been getting and all they had to do was show up to win. The upcoming Illinois game is now even more important. Win that and stay focused and it could still be a magical year. We cannot afford to take a sh*t down our leg like this again.

I don't think that the game plan today set us up to win. Reminded me a lot of the bowling green game right from the get-go. Same uniforms, weather, homecoming, the whole nine.

Tanner wasn't prepared to deal with the blitz. Really, I can't remember a game where he's performed well against the blitz. It's on everybody.

All that said, even with a game plan that was sub-standard, execution errors are why we were on the wrong side today. A missed chip shot field goal and a dropped TD are mistakes you can't make if you want to go 11-1/12-0 and play in the B1G championship.

That said I expect us to rebound. PJ is one of the best coaches in the country coming off a loss and I don't expect this time to be any different.

I'm mad, I'm sad, but ultimately this can still be a special season. This probably will still be a good season at a minimum. RTB, Ski-U-Mah, and Go Gophers. Signing off.
