The season is in sight with the Badgers releasing their non-con schedule.

Here are their opponents with final NET ranking and last season's record. Wisconsin's final net was 205 with a 8-21 record.

315 St. Thomas 6-21
269 Bradley 3-23
226 Valparaiso 11-19
208 North Florida 10-17
191 @ Milwaukee 14-16
125 @ Illinois State 18-14
120 @ UWGB 19-18
91 VCU @ V.I. 16-12
81 Seton Hall @ V.I. 24-13
55 Florida State 17-14
39 Kansas State @ Milwaukee 10-17
29 Georgia @ V.I. 21-10

Anyone anticipate this schedule will be similar to the Gophers? I know Coach Whalen doesn’t want to shy away from tough competition but with this team so young and in transition does she schedule a few more cupcakes this year? Haven’t heard any rumors of tournaments or opponents other than Wake Forest.

My guess would be easier than last year but harder than Wisconsin's.

This is how Wisconsin's NET ranking is this year:
Mean 146
Median 123

Looking back at last year's Gopher schedule, 2021-2022, (with NET Rankings posted by Whalenfan) which wasn't released until September 8th, here is what we saw:
325 Jacksonville
81 @Arizona St
173 George Washington
187 American
2 (N) UConn
30 (N) USF or 44 Syracuse
10 (N) Oregon/61 Oklahoma/5 South Carolina/100 Buffalo
79 Bradley
317 UTSA
38 North Carolina
95 Ohio
51 @Drake

The NET Ranking of this Gopher schedule from 2021-2022 is:
Mean 121
Median 80

I think our median will still be in the top 100 but mean will be about the same or slightly worse i.e. 130.

Anytime I think i've heard of every D1 women's basketball school....

Nebraska released a partial non-conference schedule today. The Huskers have a November 22 date in Lincoln with Tarleton State. The Texans are located in Stephenville, Texas and were 8-10 in the nearly unrecognizable WAC. Tarleton started the D1 transition during the 20-21 season and, with a NET of 270, may not be the worst team on the Huskers schedule.

There seems to be more new D1 schools this year than normal too. Lindenwood, Stonehill, Queens, Southern Indiana, Texas A&M-Commerce... maybe more?

Nebraska's non-con schedule with last year's final NET score and record:

276 Houston Baptist 13-11
270 Tarleton State 12-13

239 @ Texas A&M CC (in San Juan) 16-10
109 Wyoming 15-13
80 @ Drake 19-14
60 @ Mississippi St (in San Juan) 15-14
37 Kansas 21-10
31 @ Creighton 23-10
9 @ Virginia Tech 23-10

Iowa queues up an aggressive non-con schedule.

344 Dartmouth 3-23
285 Evansville 7-22
274 Southern University 12-17
89 @ Drake 19-14
54 N Iowa 22-11

10 Iowa State 28-7
4 @ UConn (Portland) 30-6 or 52 Duke
2 N C State 32-4

Teams are releasing their non-con schedules minus the teams they will face in holiday tournaments.

Rutger's non-con schedule, minus the Battle of Atlantis teams, is a masterwork of sludge. Even with a majority of precincts not yet reporting, the Scarlet Knights are walk-off winners of this season's ABBA "nothing else can save me S.O.S." award.

Here are Rutger's upcoming opponents with last year's final NET and won lost record. Even a depleated squad kitted out in knightly armour has a fighting chance at .500

356 Delaware State 0-23
341 New Orleans 4-18
339 North Carlolina Central 3-20
304 Hofstra 13-16
301 Cornell 8-16
299 Hampton 13-16
280 NJIT 15-15
87 Seton Hall 24-13
47 @ Boston College 21-12
20 Princeton 25-5

And three games yet to be announced in the Battle for Atlantis (I'll add those when they are announced.

Meanwhile, Maryland released their non-con schedule minus the three games at the Fort Meyers Tipoff. Like Iowa, the Terps tee up an fairly aggressive list of opponents. Of note: Maryland ends the non conference season with a December 21st trip to Fort Wayne. The press release notes that Shyanne Sellers sister plays for the Mastodons.

302 @ Purdue Fort Wayne 5-21
236 @ George Mason 10-19
126 Davidson 18-15
72 Fordham 18-11
15 Notre Dame 24-9
8 @ Baylor 28-7
4 UConn 30-6
1 S. Carolina 35-2

Plus three games at the Fort Meyers Tipoff.

Purdue issued its non-con schedule. It's very vanilla lacking either high end or low end spice. They do play Utah State which, before their move to D1, was the obnoxiously monikered Dixie State.

Listed with last year's NET and record.

255 SIU Edwardsville 13-18
246 @ Utah State (in Las Vegas) 10-19
203 Indiana State 10-20
156 Marshall 13-13
125 Illinois State 18-14
112 @ Harvard (in Cancun) 6-6
108 Syracuse 11-18
103 Murray State 20-10
83 @ Oklahoma State (in Cancun)
55 @ Florida State (in Cancun) 17-14
51 @ Texas A&M (in Las Vegas)

Penn State issued their non-con schedule minus two games to be played in Daytona Beach. Of note is that the Lady Lions will host Carly Thibault's Fairfield Stags.

Listed with last season's NET and records.

328 Bryant 9-22
301 Cornell 8-16
210 Norfolk State 16-12
155 Virginia 5-22
151 Youngstown St 21-7
108 Syracuse 11-18
102 Fairfield 25-7
89 @ Drexal 28-6
62 West Virginia 15-15

Two games in Dayton Beach to be announced.

Illinois drops a professionally developed schedule promising to generate a good start for the new staff.

Last year's NET and record:

353 Alcorn St 2-22
328 @ Butler 1-27
306 LIU Brooklyn 9-18
303 McNeese State 10-15
285 Evansville 7-22
284 Florida Atlantic 3-25
225 Oakland 15-15
98 @ Delaware 23-8 (Daytona Beach)
97 @ Pittsburgh 11-19
92 @ Charlotte 22-10 (Daytona Beach)
56 @ Missouri 18-13

Northwestern's non-con is Chicago centric capped by a grueling road trip to UIC.

353 @ UIC 2-25
316 Chicago State 4-23
267 Niagara 15-15
236 Valparaiso 11-19
167 Penn 10-14
128 Air Force 17-14
79 Southern Illinois 12-16
58 DePaul 22-11
52 @ Duke 17-13
15 Notre Dame 24-9
13 @ Oregon 19-12

Michigan State kicked out their non-conference schedule.

The lows are low and the (limited) highs are high. The lows are more interesting. Florida A&M won 3 games last season, Detroit Mercy won 1 while Delaware State topped them all with a perfect 0-24. The Spartans play three games outside of Breslin-two of them at the Phil Knight Invitational.

Can the Gophers top this?

356 Delaware State 0-24
351 Florida A&M 3-24
332 Detroit Mercy 1-27
320 Prairie View 9-17
302 Purdue Fort Wayne 5-21
287 @ Central Michigan 4-25
225 Oakland 15-15
173 Western Michigan 14-14
29 Georgia Tech 21-11
10 @ Iowa State 28-7 (in Portland)
6 @ North Carolina 25-7 or 13 Oregon 19-12 (in Portland)

The Buckeyes line up a competitive coast to coast non con.

322 New Hampshire 6-21
303 McNeese St 10-15
300 Wright St 3-19
206 N Alabama 10-15
179 Albany 22-10
133 Ohio 14-15
47 @ Boston College 21-12
42 @ South Florida 24-9 (In San Diego)
19 Tennessee 25-9
13 @ Oregon 19-12 or 34 Arkansas 18-14 (In San Diego)
5 @ Louisville 29-3

Seems like OSU is trying to avoid a repeat of last year, when their crappy non-con schedule earned them a 6 seed in the Big Dance, despite being a Big Ten co-champ.

My guess would be easier than last year but harder than Wisconsin's.

With the new schedule out I thought I would go back and look at this and see how my predictions were.... let's say I was waaaayy off. Here is where this year's schedule ranks.
235Western Illinois
145Lehigh
204North Dakota State
310Presbyterian
81Liberty
155Virginia
86Wake Forest
35Kentucky
316Chicago St
191UW Milwaukee
198Eastern Illinois
Mean178
Median191

Our mean drops 57 from last year and our median drops 111:oops: . That being said I am fine with the schedule. I wanted it to be somewhat easier than last year, maybe not this much easier but I am ok with it. I would have much preferred to start out with Chicago St. or Presbyterian and build more to Kentucky or Liberty for one of the last games of the season. I want them to have confidence and develop chemistry with the massive roster turnover from last year. Last year there wasn't much turnover and that was the time to have a harder schedule assuming the team chemistry was excellent...

Even though we are not starting with Chicago St. or Presbyterian we should still win our first game if the gophers come prepared.

University of St. Thomas. Bummer.
Probably no upside for that game to be scheduled this year.

The Hoosier's announced Sara Scalia non-conference schedule. There are two testers.

350 Morehead State 0-27

124 Bowling Green 16-16
96 @ Auburn 10-18 (Las Vegas

...in one of which she'll shake the hand of Jasmine Powell (although not sure Powell will play much).

Concluding the B1G non-con schedules with Olivia Olson's future school, Michigan:

356 Delaware State 0-24
331 St Francis (PA) 8-22

63 Toledo 29-6
40 @ Miami 21-13

Just a reminder to all. The Gopher WBB non-conference schedule has a NET rank median of 191. This is a very soft schedule to build team confidence this year.

Looks like on paper Lehigh was the 4th most difficult non-con opponent we play this season. If we pretend these rankings are precise we would finish the non-con schedule 8-3. Assuming Lehigh was the best possible opponent we can beat. I doubt this is true but I was impressed by them. Either they are better than 145 or we are just barely better. Even if we are barely better we have a lot of upside with our youth.
