All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

You thinking FalVine is having some second guesses with Lewis sitting on the IL collecting 8 months of service time for not playing. All to get 3 innings of Royce in centerfield for no reason.

His original ACL injury was slipping on ice. This was the same knee. Who is to say he couldn't have gotten reinjured playing infield, or any perhaps other ways like mowing the lawn?

There's no way that Lewis plays SS over Correa and my guess is the front office is expecting to have Correa around for a while. Lewis will need to learn another position or somehow beat out one of the best SS's of the last decade.

Or traded for a really good pitcher.

on Kirilloff - Hey, I don't like it, but I can also understand that it becomes a matter of how he fits into the lineup and batting order.

Kirilloff can play some corner OF, but his best defensive position is 1B. right now, the Twins have Arraez - the leading hitter in MLB - as their primary 1B.

move Kirilloff to the OF, and you are benching either Larnach or Kepler. Both of those players have been solid - and they're all left-handed hitters, so you gain no positional advantage.

I guess you could bring him up to be the DH against RHP, but I suspect the Twins would prefer for him to be an every-day player.

and Kirilloff is a left-handed hitter. the Twins are a fairly left-handed heavy team already. That is one reason why Miranda has stuck around - a RH bat (especially with Garlick out).

It's not as simple as "just bring him up." because every move has a ripple effect on the roster and batting order.
Max Kepler is hitting .204 over his last 15 games and has 1 HR in his last 30. And Gary Sanchez is still DH'ing like twice/week. Get Kiriloff up here and play him in RF and 1B/DH with Arreaz.

I guess the fact that he didn’t reinjury the knee playing the infield this season could be an example. He played 11 games for the twins at SS and nothing played 3 innings in center field and tore his knee up. He made 34 starts in St Paul with 1 in center and 2 in left field and didn’t tear his knee up in at Paul.

I guess it just seemed like an unnecessary risk when you don’t have a position for him to play if you want him to play everyday. Leave him in St Paul and let him become better SS to replace Correa when he’s gone next year.

The twins wanted him to get all this experience at different positions. He played 1 game in centerfield and made 3 put outs of 10 inning. I’m sorry but that’s not a lot of experience.

In a week the Twins (and every other team) can no longer carry 14 pitchers. So they’ll have to add a position player. I still think it’s manageable without a full time DH. In the end I think Miranda or Celestino will be the odd man out.

There's like a 90% chance they're going to let teams carry 14 pitchers for the rest of the season and 100% chance Rocco will do so if allowed.

If they are expecting that they are morons unless they are gonna pay Correa $300million over 10 years. There is no way he opts back in no matter how much he loves it here. Unless of course they play him in center field and he tears his ACL jumping into the wall from 5 feet away. They he will comeback to rehab and make $35million.

He's not just going to opt into the current contract unless he's injured, but I don't think it would take 10/$300. No one is giving him that. Something like 5/$175 with more opt outs after a couple years would probably do it.

Thanks Slump Buster - worked to get Gio out of one - look for Max to go on a tear now
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm not saying bench him, but he can certainly sit once or twice/week. And he certainly shouldn't be batting clean-up like he was last night.

If the front office does really think they can resign Correa then it was even more stupid to rush Lewis up. Let him play third and short in AAA and call him up in September so he can give rest days to both Urshela and Correa. That would get Miranda out of the line up defensively which is just fine with me.

on SkorNorth, Judd Zulgad said Lewis would have gotten hurt eventually no matter what position he was playing............

some of the best comedy out there.

BTW - Reusse and Soucheray do a weekly podcast. on this week's show, Reusse was talking about Dock Ellis allegedly throwing a no-hitter after taking LSD. some classic stuff. "at one point, he said he thought Richard Nixon was the home-plate umpire....."

I don't really agree with Zulgad, but I do think it's at least plausible that it could have been a ticking time bomb, just because it's a re-injury. Was it the crash that caused the partial tear, the leap or the landing? No idea.

Also my prior medical knowledge on knee ligaments is zilch.

17 straight innings over 3 games without a run for the Twins. Uffda.

Just keep winning series and we’ll be fine

Great outing ☀️

Agree. Lewis's injury isn't on rocco or upper management.

Jeffers has options and at this point I’d send him down for awhile. He’s so bad across the board. Can’t hit and opponents are running on him like it’s a junior high game.
Keep up the reverse jinxing GopherHole... Jeffers was a difference maker tonight!
