Twins/Vikings/Wild/Wolves Championship appearance drought tracker

Think there's any chance in hell the Wild end the drought this year? Yeah I know it's one game.

In those 114 seasons there were 7 times that the Minnesota teams were in the Conference or League Championship.

Vikings - '98, '00, '09, & '17
Twins - '02
Wild - '03
Wolves - '04

Odds of dropping all 7 were 1 in 128 (or less than 1%)
Four semifinal appearances in five years from 00 to 04: that's a nice little run we had there. Things are pretty quiet these days in comparison. Hope is systematically being drained from our people.

I always think about 1998, 2009, and then 2017 for the Vikings futility in the NFC championship game, forgetting about 2000.

Also between 1998-2004 each franchise had Home Field/Court/Ice advantage, yet still could not cash in.

It'll now be five years since the Vikes made the NFC title game. If niether they, the Twins, nor the Wild reach it this year, that'll be 20 competition seasons since one of the local teams even got that far (i.e. league semifinal). The randomized chance of just THAT drought is about 1 in 16.

This thread is such an exhibition of loser mentality. I want to win as bad as the next guy but one professional sports season has little impact on the next. Each different sport certainly has no impact on the others.

Good shooters don't stop shooting. The next one is always going to be a make.

Each season is a new 'championship season' if you believe in Fleckisms. You start each season with a fresh slate... you don't look in the rear view mirror... you focus on what is in front of you.

A kicker has to have a short term memory after a miss so they don't overthink it. Many here have gotten into their own heads!

Most of us in this thread aren’t on the Twins, Wild, Wolves or Vikes.

But for those that are on one of those teams and participating in this thread, listen to the advice of ecoperson and don’t let this thread get in your head.

Go Gophers!!

I'm moreso flabbergasted by the odds of going winless as long as we have. That's more frustrating than anything.

Why does it matter if a fan has something in their head?

That doesn't affect the team, at all.

Fans are allowed to feel how they feel.

Sorry, but to me the NHL is as niche a sport as MLS, at this point.

It's TV ratings depend on Canadians. Which is fine and all. And indeed my stance here could well be antithetical to Minnesota being "the state of hockey", sure.

But I won't be satisfied, frankly, until it's either the Vikings or the Twolves, and I would much prefer the Vikings.

It's way past due. It's our turn.

Vikings - Bengals Super Bowl. Don't care if it's 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025. Make it happen. All will be forgiven, at that time.

It's about looking forward, Bleed. Why wallow in misery looking at what could have been... especially when there have been very few times in these 100 plus seasons where a team was of championship quality. The chances of making a championship game without a championship-level team are extremely slim.

The Wild had a fun regular season but were clearly not able to compete with the Blues in the regular season or in this series. I am not going to overlook the joy that I had watching last season overall just because they failed to win this series.

I am using these sports cliches to remind fans that you might need to move on too. Fans can feel how they feel but this thread takes a special sort of commitment to being a Debbie Downer. Why be mired down in the mud of looking backwards? Relish the fun memories and move forward... some people take these games far too seriously.

Because this level of sheer bad luck -- at this point, nothing else can physically explain it -- is just absurd.

The sports god love s__ting on Minnesota. There is no other explanation.

Yes but in the 115 combined seasons we have failed to advance to a title game/series, do you really think not a single one of those teams that did win the championships had a team win of "championship quality"?! It's truly amazing that not once did we get hot, or lucky, or overachieve, etc.

It's really an amazing feat to have 115 combined seasons without a single appearance. It's absolutely talk-worthy, just as it was for you to enter this thread and contribute to it. It's news, it matters, it's painful, etc. Yes the Wolves and Wild seasons were fun, but getting outscored 15-5 in the final 3 games after being up 2-1 in the greatest regular season in franchise history is not insignificant, especially on the shoulders of 114 seasons before it.

Go Gophers!!

Is it bad that a small part of me not only expects us to lose (and lose in true MN fashion I might add) but kind of...just kind of looks forward to it? It's hard to explain but there is a certain pride I feel we can all take in having to live through what we live through with these sports teams and if one suddenly wins something our way of life is suddenly squashed haha.

It's like us bragging to others about how cold it is. We don't like the bitter cold but its our thing and makes us tougher.
