All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

I don't love the decision to run it back, but the schedule does set up favorably for them to at least grab a WC spot.

They get 6 what I would consider "easy" games against the Jets, Giants, Lions x 2 and Bears x 2. Plus very winnable games against the Saints, Commies, Eagles and Dolphins. The only though games are the Packers, Bills, Patriots, Cowboys, Cardinals and Colts and they can win a few of those.

As good as Hill/Adams are, paying that amount for a WR is insane. JJ is going to get paid, but if that's the going rate, let someone else pay it.

I agree.

The packages the Packer and Chiefs got for those two are insane. I tend to overvalue NFL draft picks (can't help it), but if I'm a GM, even if they are under contract, I am trading those guys everytime for those 2 packages

Putting into principle the fantasy football mentality, it's the last position I tend to draft because there is so much talent available--and to whit, this year I had Cooper Kupp, Jamar Chase, and Deebo Samuel on my team and none of them were drafted very early*. Yes, Adams and Hill are special talents at the position, but at that cost...whew (and Hill particularly is not a player I'd want to invest/rely upon long-term given his spotty off the field history). To think, when the Vikings got a first round pick for Stefon Diggs, I thought that was pretty extraordinary. Maybe that transaction, which helped transformed the Bills into an offensive juggernaut, laid the groundwork for all that has followed.

* And yes, perhaps I typed this post up just to slyly brag about my receiving corps this year in fantasy football.

Okay, full disclosure being a Raiders tix holder so this will be a little slanted but I would defend the haul for Adams over Hill easily, for a number of reasons.

- Adams is just plain one of the best if not the best WR in the NFL, and apparently a HUGE high character guy
- Hill is largely a speed guy and has had a few off-field issues.
- Hill kinda works for Miami because he's a big YAC guy and Tua can't throw the ball downfield so he'll be dumping short passes to Hill all day long hoping Hill can break it loose. But trading for this high of a caliber WR when you may be switching QBs in short order? Not totally sure, but if Tua can't be successful with the talent around him in Miami, he never will be.

- Also, hard to overstate the tie between Derek Carr and Adams playing together at Fresno; they have an incredibly tight relationship, tight enough for Adams to walk away from more money in Green Bay.

The Raiders will be a tough out this year. Carr now has Josh Jacobs behind him in the backfield, Waller at TE, Hunter Renfrow in the slot (one of the best slot guys in the NFL) and now Adams. Sure, it's a tough division, but they will be a good team.

...and I think Udoh has done some good things too despite his penalties.
The book on Udoh from the onset was that he was a project. I think he has talent, and if he put in the work during the offseason, I'm optimistic that he can be more than serviceable, and I think the move to guard will serve him well.

From NFL.com:
Overview
Mammoth right tackle prospect with intriguing developmental traits as both a run blocker and in pass protection. Udoh lacks the quickness for move-blocking duties but has power to generate push against opponents in front of him. There are exploitable holes in his pass sets for the NFL, but his size, length and potential for improvement in that phase are worthy of taking a shot on as a Day 3 draft-and-develop prospect that might require a year on the practice squad.

If Waller can stay healthy and Renfrow proves last season wasn't a fluke, Vegas should be pretty tough. The AFC West is going to be a sonofabitch.

Jacobs sucks, but those receivers are legit.

Are the Vikings in danger of even more mediocrity this season?

Host Michael Rand takes note of two big news conferences Wednesday from Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and new Twins shortstop Carlos Correa. Adofo-Mensah acknowledged the Vikings are in a "competitive rebuild" whereby they are trying to play for the present and future. It's a fine line to walk, and it often results in mediocrity.

Skol Vikes!!

If Vikings OL play well enough to keep Kirk comfortable, im ok with not a full rebuild

Linderbaum is too small and not worth the 12th pick. They also have bigger needs on D.
For sure. If they can trade back for a 1st and a 2nd, they might be able to grab him and a CB though. I also wonder if they shouldn't shop DJ Wonnum. I don't see him working very well as an OLB.

That would be interesting. They'll either keep him or trade and draft someone for depth.

He's actually plays nothing like Bradbury.
Hey, I could be wrong. Only going off a few things I've seen/heard here and there. Here's an example:

"Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum brings a similar skillset as Garrett Bradbury as an athletic pulling blocker who can set up blocks in the second and third levels of the defense. His quickness gets him into position to clear out big runs and beat defenders to the edge when pulling."

Thanks for clarifying this bro! I missed it the first 999 times you mentioned it.

Correct, luckily Devante Adams turned down more money from Green Bay, which would make MVS totally irrelevant.

There was no way they could ever bring back Rodgers and Adams. Damn, those were fun posts.

That was your lone comment on the entire post, despite breaking it up into three different quotes? For reals bro?

The Raiders definitely got the better end of this deal, the more you hear about how things went down. Hill is just plain not a very good human being, and it sounds like he fortified that by basically walking away from the Chiefs because it was so important for him to be paid as the highest paid WR in the league. Seems like an odd career move, but the Chiefs made the best of the situation and bent over the Dolphins in that deal.

Nice. I kinda like the Chiefs but disliked Hill. So this makes it easier to cheer for them.
Hill now getting more than Devante Adams.

It's going to suck at thinking what Justin Jefferson will command.
