New Football Schedule.

I like the schedule. The Nebraska game with a win will have us in control of the west like the last 2.5 campaigns.

Schedule is WAY better.

Avoids the cluster of 5 home games to start the season, bye week is better timed, Iowa game near the end of the season as it should be.

Yeah I don't care how easy of a schedule we previously had to start. That's how it always was under Mason: start 5-0 or 6-0 and then lose at the end of the season. If we had lost to Iowa on Sept 24, nobody would be talking about how great our schedule was anyway.

Now we have a balanced schedule where the challenges are dropped evenly throughout. Just because Michigan State was 11-2 last year doesn't mean they will be as fortunate in 2022 either.

So you think the Ohio state Michigan had lost its luster until this year?

im not sure I agree with you.
a rival is anyone you think is a rival.

Maybe it’s not reciprocal but that’s another question. When Colorado started to call Nebraska a rival but Nebraska didn’t think so…that didn’t diminish the game for Colorado
Yes. I absolutely do. My Michigan friends agree that game wasn’t as big of a deal for many years due to lack of success. But just because one team thinks its a rivalry—doesn’t make it a rivalry. You can look at it however you want which is cool.

To think that Iowa fans think our game is any less of a rivalry because they have won 5 straight is definitely off-base.

Ok. Sorry you feel that way. And I didn’t say Iowa fans. I think it’s less of a rivalry. Is that OK?

In the end, the Gophers are playing the same teams. the only difference is when they play them.

Now, that can all be impacted by injuries. In general, when you play a team earlier in the year, they are more likely to be healthy. the later in the year you play a game, the more likely that one or both teams will have been impacted by injuries.

So, when you play a team can matter in that sense.

but in the end, no matter the order, for the Gophers to win the West, they need to beat IA and WI.
1st gm of the season or last gm of the season, doesn't really matter. the Gophers have to beat IA and WI.

5 seems fair. You lose 10 straight and that game becomes fairly meaningless in my eyes. The gophers lost 17? straight to wisco and I think a lot of the luster went away. It’s come back lately. Better crowds at the bank prove it
Dopey response, fraught with illogic. Good luck to you in your little room.

Somehow the commenters will pin the schedule change on PJ Fleck.
Well, if he'd quit putting these kids through such a "meat grinder" of a practice every day. I'm surprised they can even walk when they are through......

Sure, obviously you can think whatever you like. I misunderstood and thought you were saying that other team's fans generally don't consider it a rivalry after 5 consecutive wins.

Schedule is better from a balance perspective.

However, I'm a bit bummed as a fan. While the front-loaded home schedule meant a late season meat grinder on the road, I was looking forward to the very odd 6 home games by mid-October and the nice weather that comes with it. Tailgating and the game is just easier when it's 50+ degrees, not 30.

The Strib seems to think it is a “tougher path”

Big Ten adjusts the Gophers' 2022 football schedule to break up the 5 straight home game bias and balance their schedule; Opponents remain the same.

A mid October trip to Happy Valley sounds more inviting than a mid November trip

Agree. Since PJ arrived, it seems like Iowa has been more amped up for the Gophers.

No, other way around. Diehard fans probably do. It if you’re a casual gopher fan born in 1995…you likely didn’t get the mystique of the axe that hadn’t been won by your team since you were attending daycare.

Couple of quick thoughts on the schedule.
-A little bummed we don't start conference play with Iowa. Think that would have been fun.
-We go from having our first five games at home to the first four of five at home.
- First two BIG games have changed quite bit in my opinion. @ MSU and Purdue > Iowa and Rutgers at home
- I like the schedule. Crossover games could be a lot tougher. Not convinced Penn State is going to be a beast this year.

I will be posting more thoughts on the schedule in the next week or so.

On the contrary. As someone involved in high school football I am hyped about the changes

I was hoping not to get pumped this early but I think the new schedule is perfect.

The late September trip to E. Lansing sounds perfect. I already booked my hotel rooms for Wednesday to Monday and make a nice long fall trip out of it.
