Who has the skinny on Sterbs? I keep hearing it’s destined for the wrecking ball. Absent a tailgate Sterbs has been my game day go to. Pre and post game. Since my parking is in the agony Oak Street ramp i need to kill an hour after the game anyway. The structure is long in the tooth and you can tell nobody’s putting any money into it but will it survive for the 2022 season at least? If not what options besides Sallys??

The Market at Malcom Yards was awesome before the OSU and Sconny games.
 

It doesn't really have any history besides the original building...But Buffalo Wild Wings is probably the most convenient spot these days. Directly across from the stadium.
 


The line to get in was wrapped around to about Raising Cane's about an hour before kickoff last week.

There are so few options for pregame. Almost impossible to get in anywhere. I've been relegated to the alumni center all season.

Seven Corners has a few options. Also, Malcolm Yards has become a good place, big but it gets packed too.

I come in off 94 and park usually at Oak St. so I try to stay in the Stadium Village area. No more Big Ten, no more Applebees (not that I like Applebees, but it was a place to have food and a drink).
 



I thought the Stubs building was protected by the State historical deal?

I could write a book of the unreal experiences there I experienced.
 

$10 gets you in the Fairgrounds lot, drive up, no reservation. Free shuttles to and from, very easy. Bring some beers, a grill, some burgers, and some friends (if you have any! :D ), better than waiting in line forever and being stuffed like a sardine into Sally's or Stub's. My opinion
 

Also isn't Buffalo Wild Wings still a big pre-game spot? I went there before the Penn State game in 2019 and I think they had a huge tent set up before the Sconny game that year too.

And yeah, strike my Malcolm Yards comment from the record. Definitely too fancy. 😜

The State Fairgrounds lot is underrated. Not that I'm a moocher, but there are many Gopher fans (Nebraska fans, too) that insist you eat some of their tailgating fare. Then, if you want the game day experience, jump on an early shuttle and head over to the stadium to check out the band, stadium, and tailgate lots, etc. I've got a crew that has a spot in a lot adjacent to the stadium so it is a sweet deal.

Have they put something else in the Applebee's space? I agree that it was never a great first option, but I would sometimes go there if I couldn't get in Stub's or Sally's before a basketball or hockey game.
 

I usually park in downtown St. Paul and take the light rail over. Plenty of options for eating along the way. Though getting back on the train can be a big problem as you get closer to the stadium.
 

I thought it was kind of weird the way it has been announced that Stub and Herbs is going away but nobody seems to know exactly when.

meanwhile, I submit another vote for Malcolm Yards. Lots of parking, lots of room, and a fun atmosphere within a manageable walk to the stadium. We really like that place. Perhaps a little spendy for a food court model but I love the self service beer wall and all the food I have ordered there has been really good.
 

I hate to be a whiner, but I can't help but complain about the loss of East River Flats. Great spot for tailgating or even just parking to walk somewhere else. (I know it's still there in a different form.)

Maybe I'll learn to like the Fairgrounds now that we have to hang out there more often. I like both Stub & Herb's and BWW a lot, and we go to both on and off; the problem is that getting a drink can take a long, long time. It'd be nice if they each had a few more stands for drinks, but I understand the challenges.
 

Stubs well be around a few more years, U of M owns the building, but I'm sure with Covid plans are on hold for most bigger projects

Also, I think plan was office space, which probably is no longer a priority at the U

Also BWW is a pain now that you have to do all your ordering on your phone. No more servers.

yeah, it's popular.

I usually start at Stubs and make my way to BWW and head in

Busier game days I might get relegated to 7 corners

Stub & Herbs signed a 7 year lease with the U of M Foundation in 2018
here is the concept plan Foundations released in 2020 for when the lease expires.

Prior to moving to Denver earlier this year, I was a long-time ST holder who lived near Rochester and I loved the convenience of the State Fair lot. Didn’t do much tailgating there (never for 11:00 AM games), but House of Coates made for a nice post-game stop.
