Shooter: You’ve got to give credit to P.J. Fleck and his representation for scaring the University of Minnesota into a new $35 million 7 year contract

My reference to Mason was more in the vein that Minnesota is paying the HC top of the conference $$$ for middle of the conference results.

As I opined in another post, when you see an OC/DC replaced, you'll know Philip is feeling the heat.
I don't know if Coyle has connections to somebody like the MacMillan family to get help on a buyout in a few years? Fleck likely has 2-3 years to figure things out.
you think they gave him a two year extension because he has two years to figure things out?

10 years 85 million for James Franklin
42-27 in conference
1 conference title

Wonder if they have a lot of “extremely disappointed” butt-hurt fans posting on their msg board(s) now. He obviously tricked their Admin into the extension, after sneakily losing 4 of the last 6 games?

I mean he hasn’t gone 11-2 since 2019 (a season where he lost to rivals Ohio state and got inexplicably beaten by Minnesota)

2020 he went 4/5
Can’t make Covid excuse

This year loses to Illinois at HOME

That is pretty uncanny...

Insiders say Fleck was No. 4 on the Southern California candidate list. And word is Fleck wasn’t on the table for the LSU job, which could pay upward of $10 million a year for the right coach.

It turns out the Virginia Tech job wasn’t going to pay enough. Texas Christian was not a possibility.

What Fleck mostly got in the new deal is years (he’s signed through 2028). Essentially he got the best that he could under the circumstances before having to play Iowa and Wisconsin this season.

Fleck’s contract now pays him $5 million a year. University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel is paid $640,000 a year.

Go Gophers!!
Last I checked the season isn't over and the team could still go to the Rose Bowl.

All a HC needs is a crafty agent throwing the coaches name out there for various job openings. There's a lot of these extended contracts that are gonna look foolish in a few years.

It's no different than MLB, where one, single good season nets someone a mega deal.

I hope I'm alive in a few years to revisit this subject.

Yeah. I’m beginning to think that fleck’s 6% raise isn’t such a bad deal after all

To be frank I have never been a huge PJ guy...never wanted him to be coach. (and I was wrong) I had zero issue with the "new" contract even before the Mel Tucker ridiculousness. While his style is not my style I have watched enough Gopher Football in my 41 years to see this is working and allowing him to leave or looking for reasons to fire him will only set us back even farther.

He runs a clean program and he wins Big Ten games consistently...that is the first step. Now it is time for the next one and I think we are almost there. I am not pleased with how some things have played out this year, but I still say he deserved his raise.

It's very simple to me -- if you want PJ fired given his record here then what Gophers coach over the last 50 years have you liked? Seriously, I'm curious.

I love PJ.... but he needs to develop that killer instinct! He is wayyyy to focused on not offending the competition!!!

Eat it Shooter. Even though there are downs and ups, general trend is positive. ROW.
